(A biographical sketch taken from One Hundred Years, The Delaware County National Bank Chester, PA 1814-1914)
William S. Davis (1843-45, 47-49,
51-53), son of William and Rachel (Robinson) Davis, was born in Chester
township, in 1803. He was a very successful farmer and a man of influence
in the county. In 1855, he sold the farm he inherited from his father for
$200 an acre, a record price at that time, and removed to Christiana,
Lancaster county, where he purchased a plantation. He died there in 1887,
aged 84 years.
