Eli D. Pierce (1835), son of John and James (Dicks) Pierce, was born in Thornbury, December 28, 1789. He was a farmer by occupation and a man of means. Several mills in Middletown were owned by him, but outfitted and rented by tenants. Eli D. Pierce died in Nether Providence, at what is now known as Palmer's Corner, February 1, 1871, aged 81 years.
