Recollections:
Name: Michael H. Coles RecollectionsYes! That was it,the parades on T.V. Then the big game Chester vs. St.James at the "A" field or P.M.C./Widner College. Afterwards the big bird,at the Coles house on 11th.& Kerlin St. Name: Robin (Moon) Stancil RecollectionsI remember the first thing we did was to look at the Gimbel's and Macy Thanksgiving parade on TV, Than later on go to the A field to see Chester Hight beat St. James which was our rival. The highlight of the game was the halftime performance, seeing the Chester High School band under the leardership of Miss Kirpatrick do their thing which was always a treat. After the game go home and be with family and friends to a GOOD home cook meal. That was the time when everyone knew their neighbors and interact with time. Those was the good old days Name: Madeline Jenkins-Steiner RecollectionsOn Thanksgiving our family always had a nice get together and a delicious meal cooked by my mother who was a great cook. In 1956 I went to a home coming football game at the Athletic Field and helped to sell the programs as people entered to see the game of Chester vs Media. They sold for $.25. We all wore large yellow mums on our coats and had alot of fun. The band, majorettes and colorguard put on a great show at halftime. They set everything up to look like a Thanksgiving Dinner including the Alka-Seltzer played by Jane Hiestand. Everyone had a good time cheering on the Chester High football team especially Tom Keenan and Bob Jackson. After the game most people went home to their own dinners. Name: Margaret Mitchell-Reed RecollectionsThanksgiving was always a day of sharing and serving others who are less fortunate. I believe THIS IS my mission in life;TO SERVE OTHERS who can't help themselves or just need a helping hand to get started. Name: hgc/pmc RecollectionsThanksgiving was always a big event at P.M.C.,it meant a four day furlough for the Corps, and it was traditionally the end of the freshmen's ROOK PERIOD,after that the freshmen achieved regular Cadet status,no more bracing and walking around and being a target for all upperclassmen, yeah if you were a ROOK Thanksgiving could not come fast enough.ATTENTION CADETS;ATTENTION CADETS do you remember? Name: George Karlsen RecollectionsThanksgiving 1966, and I was 7. We went to Long Beach Island, NJ. Got to stay in a cold house with the smell of kerosene. Me, mum, dad, and the dog. First time I ever saw snow on the beach. 1967 we were back to Brookhaven, Pa. Always liked the holiday, as it was two days off and free from Holy Ghost School.
Name: barbara RecollectionsOne year, we went back to our home town of Shenandoah, Pa to have our Thanksgiving Dinner with my Aunt Stella, and Babusha my grandmother. My Aunt Bertha and her family came from Reading, Aunt Rose and her family were there and of course my parents and two brothers. What a nice time we had. We all sat around the kitchen table, loaded with food. Back then you had a kitchen which fit in a coal stove which Aunt Stella cooked on, and this large table and chairs to go with it. In the kitchen was a rocking chair which I can remember my grandmother sitting on it, reading from her prayer book. She did this every day, rocking in that chair by the coal stove. We had a wonderful dinner and took many pictures. Most of these relatives are gone now, but what a treasured memory that is.
