Hartley D. "Heck" Heywood, 79, a lifelong Chester resident, died Jan. 30 at Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
Born in Woodstown, N.J., he was the son of the late Hartley E. and Addie C. Fox Heywood.
Mr. Heywood was a security guard for 10 years with Wells Fargo Guard Service before retiring in 1993. He previously spent 36 years with Chester Fire Department at the Moyamensing Hook and Ladder Co.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, where he earned the European African Middle Eastern service medal, the American Defense service medal and the Good Conduct medal.
Mr. Heywood was a member and volunteer at Moyamensing Hook and Ladder Co.; the Delaware County Firemen's Association; the Pennsylvania State Firefighters Association; the Chester City Firemen's Association, Local 1400, IAFF and VFW Post 1521, Chester.
Surviving are his wife, Annie Q. Lucas Heywood; a daughter, Patricia Ann Heywood of Chester; and a son, Harry B. Heywood of Chester.
He was predeceased by a brother, Warren J. Heywood.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 314 Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park. Calling will be at the funeral home after 9 a.m.
Burial will be in Edgewood Memorial Park, Concord.
