1875-1927

We have lost our great leader.  A man of vivid imagination spartan courage, strong will power and, above all, blessed with a quality of character which tempered his actions with justice and fairness.

In the Organization he was known as "Mr. Arthur".  That name, to all of us, signified strength of character, progressive action and unusual personal solicitation for each and every member of our great Company family.  He cherished the thoughts of the business as a united happy family.

To all of us who mourn his loss this tragedy can only mean that we now re-dedicate our lives to carry forward the ideals and purposes of the business as he established them.

WHAT MIGHT BE CALLED THE CREED OF ARTHUR HOYT SCOTT

---

"To dodge difficulties is to lose the power of decision"

--

"It is never safe to look into the future with eyes of fear."

---

"Many spoil much good work for the lack of a little more."

---

"Isn't it strange that princes and kings
and clowns that caper in sawdust rings,
and common folks like you and me
are builders for eternity?
To each is given a bag of tools.
A shapeless mask and a book of rules:
and each must make, ere life has flown,
a stumbling block or a stepping stone."
