Class of '67 40th Reunion:

Just wanted to pass on the information about the class of '67, 40th Reunion. We are just in the beginning stages of the plans. The next meeting will be at my home on Wednesday, Dec.6, 2006 at 7 PM. Anyone interested, please email me. We have a long list of classmates who are missing. Adding people from other classes always makes it fun. I attended the Class of '64 Reunion and had a great time. I came across this site while looking for information about Claymont, and am happy to see so many familiar names. I am alumni of Class of 72 (should have been 70),and fondly remember all who have posted here. If the last name is confusing, I changed it many years ago from Gay, because of ignorant individuals that for some reason would block career and personal advancement. Imagine that... As most of you, my wife Carol and I have Grand Children; a 9 year old boy and a 2 year old girl. Our children, 3 girls age 28, 25 and 22 and one boy age 22 are all out on their own and are doing well. We live outside of Clayton DE, have three horses and are looking forward to retirement to the hills of Tennessee, Virginia or Kentucky, THANK GOD. I made my final career chooice in the military and found out how old I really am on my last trip to the desert. To any and all who remember me, it would be an honor and privelege to hear from you. I graduated in 76, still remember most of my life and live here is DE. Walt Coppol lives on my street and Bruce LaPorte, and Mrs. Roccia are neighbors. Still a little crazy, sober for 4 years and have 2 kids. Sister, Peggy, '77 lives in South Carolina and brother Bill '61, Elkton and Sam '62 Bradenton FLA. Mother graduated from Claymont in ~'34. God Bless Claymont and all those who are associated with it. They discovered crude oil deposits beneath Brookview apartments and are now in the process of building a refinery on the site.

oh, such memories...the bridge in the woods between Ashbourne Hills and Claymont High. YIKES!!! (where 95 is now) were there really trolls or just good old juvenile delinquents that we were so scared of? I think it was me and Bonnie Nash up on the overpass over 95....dont know why we were up there; it was under construction..policeman came and told us to GET DOWN...we didnt..we just froze.. it was a standoff...they finally left...havent thought about this in YEARS.. has anyone heard from Bonnie Nash? we were class of 1970.

Hello All. It's been about four months since I've been on this site. My computer died and then I couldn't get through to this site for a while. Libby, I never had my party. My mom went into the hospital the day before Thanksgiving and we weren't sure what was going to happen from day to day. I decided it wouldn't be a good time for a big party. She was in the hospital for one month and they we moved her into an assisted living residence. She loves it. Maybe I have it next year. Glad to see you on the Class of '67 site. It's a fun site and Lee always keeps it interesting. I think we're right........it was Pat! Sorry to hear about your brothers. I had no idea. Well, maybe you can make your next trip back to the States for our 40th reunion. We will start working on it soon. My guess is it will be in the late summer of 2007, but that remains to be seen.

Was given this site by my brother..his contact at work was kind enough to pass it on once learning about our connection to Claymont. Steven,,,, Well,,Kenny passed away Jan 31st at 8:32 am. he had another heart attack,,which took him. In total he had 10 heart attacks. He was still in the induced coma. I asked the doc if he would have felt or had any idea what was going on and they told me no....They told me he was so into the coma that he probably was gone last week , it was just his body there. It gives me comfort to know that he is with his best friends,,his brothers. He missed and grieved for them so bad, now he is with them again,,this time forever. Pam is being a bitch,,,she's not involving the family in anything. His kids are beside theirselves, they don't even know where he is being taken to. Steven,,, so far Kenny is still hanging in there. His partner decided she wanted to try and take him out of the induced coma and then take the ventalator out. Well,,the doc's reduced the med a LITTLE bit on Wed past,,and he had another 3 heart attaks. Two Fridays ago,,he had 5,,thats why they put him into the induced coma,,,so his heart could relax a little...but the problem is...even when they go to move him,,he strokes out and needs to have the paddles on him. I have talked to the doc's at the hospital and they told me that his heart is like a rubber band,,,it's so damaged the bottom part is nearly gone. As his partner is considered next of kin,,we as sisters don't have a say in any decisions. What gets me is,,,she treated Kenny like shit,,,and now she's up there boo whoing. That give me the shits. I wish I could have told you better news,,but I feel thats not going to happen. Sooner or later,,something has to be done, Kenny can't go on like this. The doc told me that kens condition is VERY, VERY, VERY critical. I will keep you up to date as I find things out, I wasn't sure if you were getting my messages,,so I haven't been leting you know whats happening. So,,how is Doris??? Steven,, I haven't heard from you in a while,,so I thought I better let you know how Kenny is doing. Kenny isn't going to make it. Probably before you read this he will be gone. He had his anerisum operation and didn't recover from it. He had 3 heart attacks,,2 which were friday past. He had to be recussed and put onto a resperator to keep him alive. He can't breath on his own,,when they try,,he stops breating. The family has been called in to make a decision on takeing him off and as soon as they do that,,he'll pass away in a matter of seconds. He's HEAVILY sediated,,so he knows nothing of what's happening...but I believe he can hear. So,,the family is there talking to him and all. My heart is broken again, as this is the 3rd brother passing in 3 years. Now it's just us girls. I'll be ringing the hosp up 11:00pm Mon night my time,,your time will be 8:00 am Monday morning. They then will know when the resperator will be turned off. I did tell Ken about your writeing me and he was going to give you a call when he came out of the hospital,,which now will never happen. He went for a MRI and the doc found out that he has 3 anarizions,,,the spelling is probably not right,,,but anyway,,there is one in the aortia,,,one in his side and one in his back. He went to the Riddle for the MRI and then was air lifted to the the University of Phil Hospital. He's being operated on probably Thurs. I rang the hospital and he is in intensive care. Also his one kidney isn't working right. I have to tell you that he is in BAD shape this time.. I just pray to God that he pulls through this. My sister told me that the one in his side is as big as a baseball. The doc's are really worried about the one near his heart. It'll be one year on the 30th that freemy passed away. I just hope that Kenny has the will and strenth to pull through this. I will keep you up to date on his progress. take care

Hi Libby! Hi Joe! I have snow and ice that just will not melt. It's pretty but a pain in the neck. I live in the mountains so I get a little more snow than those living in the DC metropolitan area. Last week I got home a little too late and could not make it up the hill and had to walk a quarter mile in the crunchy snow and sleet. I was ticked, to say the least. I tried walking in the street but kept sliding backwards. :) I had two big poinsettias and a bag of groceries. I thought I was going to have heart failure before I reached my porch. LOL LOL I'm changing my name when my divorce is final but he doesn't have medical insurance and I told him I would hold off until he got a job with benefits - well, hold off within limits. ;) Sheryle's party was canceled but I'm sure she will tell you about it when she can. Joe, Mike and Corky are doing well. Corky actually rents a room from me and works for a flooring and cabinet store in Winchester. Mike is in construction and living in Florida. Neither one of them are married. Well, Mike has a long term girlfriend but I wish Corky would find someone to marry and move out! LOL He probably does, too. I am Doris Weldon's Brother, I was very good friends with Kenny we actully went to the Navy together on the buddy system.. And I served with him on the USS Coral Sea. I'm sorry to hear about all of the cancer in your family and even more saddend to hear about you brothers health. I've been married three times and have a very beautiul marriage now... I have 6 six children of my own from the second and two step children from my newest marrage. Alicia, Nick, Todd, Dawn, Daniel and Jason and I lost a child to SIDS his name was Kenny he was named after your brother.. Everyone of my Sisters and brother are doing great, they all live in Florida. My health on the other hand has seen better days. I have epilepsy and I to like your brother have a heart condition, I've had 5 heart attacks. I'm now Sixty years old. My momther passes away on the 18th of November at 76. She lived in Florida with my siblings, she to had Cancer lymphoma Cancer.. My father died 19 years ago of Leukemia. I have three Grandchildren and one on the way Alicia's child Ariona Nick's sons name is Kayleb and he has a daughter on the way. and Dawns daughters name is Kaylee.. Todd has not had a child yet.. Steven,, I have to be honest,, your name rings a bell,, but I can't remember where from?? Must be old age. Refresh my memory. Did your Mom know me?? Old age is a bitch,,, lol,lol,.. I'm doing really good. I moved to Australia in 1979,,my husband is Australian. I have 2 children,,, Brian,,,31 and Stephanie,,21. I'm not a grandmother yet. My Brother John passed away 2 years ago,,, he had tongue cancer,,, it was a horrible way to go,, it was so bad. Freeman,,, my oldest brother passed away a year this Dec. 30th,,he had heart attack. Kenny is still here,, but his health isn't to good either,, he has a bad heart,, mind you they all smoked,, which was the main factor in both of my brothers that passed away. Kenny lives in Aston. Joyce my oldest sister lives in Tenn. She had rectum cancer,, but is 100% all cured. Darlene also had bowel cancer,, she went through a tough time,, but it on her way to a full recovery. She lives in Maryland. So,, with all the cancer in my family,, I go get my check ups quite regularly. Sorry to hear about your Mom,,,,what happened with her??? Do you know my brothers and sister??? You aren't Doris Weldons brother are you??? I try to get back home as often as I can,, but the air fare is so expensive...I was back 2 years ago,, when John and Joyce were sick. I would like to get back more often,, but !! It's summer here now and I must tell you,,,,that Christmas is nothing like the ones home... It's so different,,, you cook a turkey in the middle of summer.. no snow and it's HOT !!! After 26 years of living here,, you'd think I was used to it,, but I'm not. Hi Steve, Sorry I took so long to get back. My DSL was unhooked for a while as I moved my room around. Yes, I would love you to send me the photo/photos. I'll look around for some shots of my end of Marion Avenue. I know there are some. Funny you mentioned Mickey's house. About 3 or 4 years ago, I met up with Billy Gafford. I used to go dancing on Friday nights at "Porkys". There was a crew of us "oldies" that would go there and dance to the oldies until about 9 PM when the young kids would take over. I met a guy there that was from Brookhaven, PA who went to school with Billy after they moved from Claymont to Brookhaven, PA. I told him to tell Billy I said hello. Well, Billy showed up one Friday night. He said Mickey is living around Tampa, FL, and I think his younger brother was down there also. Billy stayed in Pa. Sheila said she used to see your mom. Your mom said that she had lent some photos to Martha/Marti Sheik's mother who was the Claymont historian, so to speak, and she never got them back. Were you aware of those photos? I guess Martha is now the official historian. I'll have to remind Sheila of victory over you in chess and see if she remembers. She was much better at chess than I. Seems I'd rather be dancing, if I can remember correctly. LOL

Hi Libby, I will tell Sheila you said "hello". Sheila's first husband was the Jimmy Crawford in the class of '65. He had dark hair and played the drums in the group "The Turfs", with Wayne Watson, Barry Jedlicka, and Dave Daller. The one with red hair was in our class. They both lived in Ashborne Hills. My son, Jeremy, lived in Jersey City, NJ and worked in the financial district at the time of 9/11. He used to take the PATH train into and under the Trade Center to go to work. Fortunately, he was visiting with me down the Jersey Shore on that infamous day. His place of employment was destroyed and he lost his job. Since so many had lost their jobs, it was most difficult for him to find a new one for months. He did not lose any friends or co-workers, though, which is a good thing.

Australia,,what can i say about it !! It is nice. It's alot different than the States,,,but I will always consider myself American. Some places are really beautiful,,although I haven't traveled around alot here,,,but they show alot on TV. I still have my sisters and brother in the states,,so i try to get back as much as I can,,but it's so expensive. With the exchange rate,,I lose alot in the money exchange part. So,,your starting oyur own business...You should try to market them world wide. Thats a different thing,,people will grab onto that. Try down here,,they copy Americans all the time. It's now going into our summer. The winters,,where I live,,is mostly rain. It does snow in the mountains,,but I don't go there. Even in the winter,,it's not like the winter in the States, you can go without a coat. I been here now going on 26 years and been back home about 6 times. I still get homesick and wonder why i moved here. But,,,my kids would never move to the States and there is no way that I would move back and leave them here,,so I guess I'm stuck here. Hi Libby, Great hearing from you. Hope all is well with you and yours. Australia, huh? Such a beautiful place, at least that's how it appears. No, Nick and I split up back in '87. We are still good friends, though. We have two sons. Justin is 28, a drummer and auto tech. He lives here in Wilmington and just got back from a 20 day tour of Europe playing with his band. Jeremy is 24,living in New York, a singer,songwriter and actor, waiting for that record deal to happen, waiting tables to pay the bills. How about you? Sheila still lives in Claymont in Rolling Park. She married Jimmy Crawford (drummer from the Turfs, class of '65) and had a son, Travis, now 35, a freelance writer and one of the producers for the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival. They divorced around 1971. She is now remarried with a son and a daughter, both in college. I saw Holly last summer at Rehoboth eating in the same restaurant I was. It's been quite a while since I've seen Lisa. My ex-boyfriend I visited her in the Lancaster area, Lititz, one year, but that was quite a while ago. Kathy Donahue I saw within the last 5 years. She was teaching art, but I can't remember which school. Susan and I see each other from time to time. She just emailed me about working on the next reunion. Let me see.......we saw each other at a crab feast last year. Claymont has really taken a dive over the past years, but with that whole area of Brookview being slated to come down, with new townhouses and condos going up, some of which will be selling for as much as 495K, it appears to be destined for a change for the better. I've forever been in retail, but got totally burned out. I now dabble a little in real estate, work part-time at Curves (good way to keep in shape and get paid for it), and am starting a little company making cell phone holders for the wrist. I live right down the street from Salesianum High School. I have a co-op in Brooklyn, NY, where my son lives and use when I want to do the NYC thing, and I spend most of my time during the summer at my place in Cape May. Hopefully, you can make the next reunion when we have it all planned.

I was a member of class of 81 and grew up in Knollwood what was known as the hill but before that is was called worthland. It is really neat to hear the stories of times before me.

I had many and many of good times growing up in claymont and the hill and to go back and see what it is like now only saddens me. Claymont steak shop is not what it use to be and now there is a new one at harvey rd in the shopping area called franks I think but they make a sub that would remind you of the old greek subs.

Kathy, I don't know if you remember me? I remember going over to your and Bill's place, hanging out with Mike and Leslie sitting around the table and having a good time. I did graduate from Claymont in 67, but alot of people don't remember because I came back to Claymont in the middle of the senior year. I do run into Bill once in awhile. Sorry to hear about Mike and Leslie. I don't think I can remember a time they were not together. I run into Ron Annone now and then; also see Tim Ross. Tim owns a garden center called "Always the Garden". It is located just south of Silverside road on the Phila. Pike. I also keep in touch with Elmer Holland and Joe Muscolino (Class of 66) lives right down the street from me. Come to think of it, Barbara Graybill lives about five houses up the street from me. Myself I have been married for thirty two years. Have one son three grandkids and another on the way. I married a Claymont girl Jo Karlik (Class of 70). As I have been reading on here Claymont is changing. Matter of fact, Brookview is going to be sold and it is rumored they are going to build new homes there. Good to read what old classmates are doing and am glad to have found the site. Jim Govatos told me about it. He went to Claymont but moved to Brandywine High after Interstate 495 was built. It tore apart our whole neighborhood. I was sick when it tore down the big mansion I grew up in. I can't believe they tore down the bowling alley and put up a "Super Fresh" food store. Hi Kathy,,,sorry to take so long to get back to you. My virus protection thing ran out,,so I had to wait until it was reinstalled. I didn't go on the computer until then. The last time that happened,, a virus got in and ruined my computer. Sounds like you have a good job. I used to work for a company that had business branches through out Australia,,,,I did all the data entries,,, etc. I worked there for 10 years and then decided I needed a change,,,so I left there and worked in the hospital for 7 years. There were alot of changes in the health system here,,,makeing it VERY hard work,,so I left there and went to work at Franklin Mint,,,that was a really good job. Libby, wow - Australia and married for 32 years! That's a long time. Congrats. Bill never remarried. We take turns (well, he has more turns than me) staying with our sixteen year old granddaughter when our daughter goes out of town. He lives on the Hill and has lived in Claymont all his life. I've lived in Florida several times, Texas several times and California. Usually I move because of a better job. I work for a satellite company in Washington, DC as an Accounting Manager. Last year I decided to "downsize" companies because I have been in the high tech rat race for the past 15 years. I've worked for Siemens, Dell Computer, America Online and CACI. High level positions with high exposure so you have to always be on your toes. Now I work for a smaller company with less stress. I'm hoping to retire within a few years and my new honey and I are going to sail away to the US Virgin Islands. Of course, it is a goal right now and may not reach fruition but who knows? We just recently separated after 30 years and now I have a new honey that I found on classmates.com. He's not from Delaware so no one will know him. I have not seen anyone for a long time (other than Bill and that's because we have a daughter that we both visit). The last time I saw Holly was maybe 17 years ago and a group of us met at her house - Holly, Lisa Brittingham, Kathy Donahey, Sheryle Frieze, Peggy Shoemaker. We had a blast. Claymont has changed alot. If you drive through Claymont now you can see it changing every day. New Waterfalls across from the post office. New Dunk'n'Donuts across from the Firehouse. The Firehouse is going to get a facelift also. A new radio station in Claymont "The Ticket - All Sports Radio - 1290" great sports talk shows. A new Wawwa at Harvey and Phil pike.

Hey Paulette,,

Wow,,really glad to hear from you. I've been trying to get your email address for a LONG time. I tryed to get into the Claymont Classmates site..but had to join the gold class part,,,forget that!~!!! So,,your retired,,,,lucky thing!!! I still keep in tocuh with Marlene Rhodes and sometime Barbara. I've been back home a few times over the years,,,s years now since I been back. I still get homesick. What can I say about Claymont's class of 67 !!! It was just great wasn't it?? We had some really good times. So,,who did you marry?? Do you see any body else from our class?? I remember the Sears opening...you have a good memory!!! My family are good,,I have a son,,,who turns 31 on Feb 23rd and a Daughter who turns 21 on March 4th. No grandkids yet..I'd love to be a grannie though. Wow,,you worked at the same place fr 32 years!!! Hows your Mom ,,Dad and Sister doing??? Do they still live on Brandwine Street,,is that the name??? You lived up the other end of the row homes? near McMenamans, Gallagher, Crimians, Callahans? What a great neighborhood it use to be. I graduated with Libby in '67 from Claymont - the good old senior steps!! Alot of history, alot of great times. I wrote and hope to hear back. What a great site - will pass it on.
