Paula, thanks for updating me. The triplets were about 5 years younger than me so if you are younger than them, yes, we would probably not have crossed paths. I was in the 7th or 8th grade and I think they were like in the 3rd maybe. I remeber Mrs. Sacco, too what a wonderful lady. Thanks

Paula, thanks for info. I am trying to remember you. You or your mom worked at school right? or was a bus driver or something. I remember your name well - were you part of the triplets in Brookhaven? or is that a cousin? They use to ride the bus with me, Frank, Michaeline and ?, michael maybe? this site is cool, it helps jar the memory, mostly fond, Mrs. Ferris had a little anger problem back then, but hey we never knew what was going on in their personal lives. I just remember her always being so angry.

I remember KYJ's too, awesome food. My mom was Vera of Vera's Dancing School in chester, she helped sew the procession gowns at St. Hedwigs in 1970's, remember processions in May? I had to go to convent by myself, yes myself, sister gave me the keys, can you believe it, to get some gowns that were in the upper room, it was really spooky in that convent, kinda scary by myself and I was probably 12 or 13 at the time. The rooms were really sparse with bed, dresser and crucifix.I'll never forget that, I got to see inside their world.

Hi Judy, As I approach my 46th birthday I am reminded of the birthday's of my youth where my Grandmother or Aunt Stella would go to Kyji's bakery to get my favorite Birthday cake - "Strawberry Shortcake"...I even tried on my trip up to NJ for work this week to make it by to pick one up even though your not suppose to buy your own birthday cake. Just thinking of the great aromas from the Kyji's every day going to St. Hedwigs and after church on Sunday brings a smile to my face :-)....but not my waist line !!

Mike Shea, It was nice talking to you the other day on the phone. Hope all is well. After talking to you, I starting remember things from the "70's". Thanks! I really needed that. It's funny how we forget things as time goes on… but it’s nice to have someone remind you of them every now and then. WOW, what a time! I was just reading some of the old email and it’s amazing how people talk about the past. I just love hearing these stories. I just wish more would use the site to keep in touch with each other. I also saw the email you were talking about. Again thanks for calling, talk to you soon. LT

Freddie you are right…it’s been well over a year. Whatever happen to the rest of the Three Musketeers… your brother’s Ziggie and Jimmy? Are they living in Florida too or still in Delaware County area. How well I remember the Goreckie’s boys, oh wait “MEN”. Two J’s is not good anymore… thanks to the employees over the years. I was sorry to hear about your mother passing away I feel for you it’s been twenty years since my mother passed. So, tell me how are your brothers doing? Did they ever grow up and become adults? I know your sister is still living in the area, I see her every now and then. I know it’s got to be bugging you not knowing who this is, but when I feel it’s right I will tell you who I am. What have you been up to these past years? Did you ever remarried? Do you keep in touch with your children? Do your visit the area? Last I read your brother Ziggie was in Florida and Jimmy was in Norristown. But I’m sure this has changed since then. Tell me some information and I will give you some information too. I will give you one clue. Lets see, I use to live west of you. Hope this helps. If not, next clue will follow. Take care.

Hi All, we are constantly looking for more Class of "84" members who were not able to make it to the reunion. The reunion was a lot of fun. For other classes that are thinking about it, believe me it is worth every moment. There were so many memories and laughs, I left hurting from the laughter.
Hello to Donna Koczynski & hello also to Ed Brysiak. Ed, you have a brother that graduated with me right?

A Highland Gardens memory: riding bikes in the thick white fog produced by the municipal trucks every summer, which was done for mosquito control. The agent was probably DDT before it was outlawed. Still ended up with lots of mosquitoes on those humid august evenings anyway.

I heard today that Mr. Bert Piscotty had a stroke and is in a nursing home in Wallingford, pa. Also today I drove past St. Hedwig's church and they were cleaning out the grills for the fans in the church. Did everyone know that KYJ's bakery celebrated there 50 anniversary last year 2004! Basically everything in Chester was quite. I only could remember playing games while in grade school in the 1950's on Hayes Street. Best to all.

Sandy Kaminski and myself are currently planning a 50th reunion for the class of 1955 St. Hedwigs. A cite will be determined upon responses received. We are open to suggestions but feel a dnner at a restaurant in Delaware County would be our best bet. We were unale to get a list of graduates but between Sandy and myself were able to come up with a list of students and we will begin the ardious task of contacting these people to determine their desire to have a reunion. Based on a currsory sampling initial response has been very favorable. I ask anyone from St Hedwigs class of 1955 please send me an e-mail advising if you are interested and means to communicate with you, either telephone or internet. In any event fellow class mates please mark your calendars for Saturday November 26th, 2005. Am looking forwarding to hearing from our old classmates. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info Kathy Korab. I thought I was correct in talking about those guys but I was a little hesitant since it's been so long since I've lived there. I couldn't remember the Zoltaks so ty for refreshing my memory. Ray Szelika(sp.) was Albin's brother I believe. I also remembered Jan and Blaise Maitland. I believe Jan still lives on 3rd St. Did you live in the area Kathy? I lived on Harwick St. from like '66 to '91 and presently live in Newark Delaware. I am attempting to locate old neighbors and have been met with a bit of success. If you like Kathy, email me and I can inform you of the people I've found. Thanks again for the refresher Kathy. To Carolyn and whoever it was asking about Lance romance and the Jastremski's(sp.) Radar was Dave Jastremski. He was the one with the radar ears. His brother was Tom, or as we called him,Jazz. He also had a sister Camille I believe. She was in the Air Force if I'm not mistaken. Lance Kmiecz was another westender that never really held a job but always found a way to feel good if you know what I mean. Lance romance, as he was called, lived with his grandmother i believe on Highland Ave. Then there was the brothers Mike and Stan who lived next to the Jastremski's. I can't remember their last names but I remember that Mike loved Vodka and Stan worked at Boeing I believe. Mike was short guy who bartended a few places and always had the "clear stuff". He loved that vodka. Then there were the Maitland's from 4th st. and a guy named Albin Schalega(sp. may be wrong)and his brother who lived on Hayes st. There were alot of other guys that hung around that part of town but not enough time to mention them all. My mind is running wild now and I'll have to reminisce some more. What memories of our town that we have and hold will forever be etched in our minds. God bless the Chester of old.

Dave Yastremski(sp?) lived on highland ave.He was also known as "Radar".He also had a brother who was nicknamed "Sonar".Can't remember his real name.Dave was pretty sociable, and "Sonar" kept to himself, almost constantly riding his ten speed bike (probably to get away from all the harrassment from those who tormented him about his ears)Nice guys,I also remember their sister, Camille.

Hi Richie Korenkiewicz
How are you and your brother Frank? You know I had almost forgotten that you had your shop near 3rd and Harwick. Remember when there was a candy store in that building. Still get down there as my Uncle still lives in the house on the corner. Hope all is well with you and yours.

Hello there Rich Korenkiewicz. I haven't seen any of your family in years. How is everyone? Still in the hvac field? What about brother Frank? I lived on Harwick St. years ago. You guys still had the shop on 3rd St. I know you guys moved to Twin Oaks and the family business was closed right? Do you still speak to Harry brooks? I haven't seen him in a while either. I moved from the area in '98 and haven't hung up there in years. If you will, please email me and let me know how things are going. Thank you and I hope to hear from ya soon.

Bob Kogut: Nice memoir. I certainly remember all those incidents you mentioned (except I don't remember the shoes you said I wore), especially the detectives coming to school because they dragged me and Lenny out of class for questioning. I didn't know it was Gornick until reading your post just now, but the nuns were sure I did it anyway. I also remember me and Smagala hanging Teddy out of the school window by his feet (2nd floor). Damn! That was stupid, and our nun, on her way back to the school, saw us do it. That was a little difficult trying to explain away. I was also blamed for Mike Polulack's cherry bombs in the auditorium. In fact, our 8th grade nun blamed me for everything that happened - but she was right about half of the time. Nice hearing from you.

It's great to see all the people for the past writing in. It brings back such great memories. I been to many Church's throughout the world and must admit St Hedwig's has something that other Church's just don't have. But our parish is shrinking, most traditions everyone talks about still go on though not on the grand scale we all remember. But their are a few hard working people that are determined to keep our traditions alive. I'm encouraging everyone out there to stop by and visit once in a while before it's all gone. I realize many live in far places but most live within reasonable traveling distance. Mass is still in place weekly on Sunday at 9:30AM , attend once a month or other month. As long as people are attending our Mass in numbers it is less likely that St Hedwig's will be forced to close the doors forever. With the thousands of people that St Hedwig's has geared for the world if just a small percentage came to our Mass throughout the year we would fill every pew. I remember the days as an alter boy St Hedwig's hosted four Mass's on Sundays and every Mass was filled; now it's challenging to keep one Mass alive. Maybe you have young ones that could serve the Mass or be in the processions. Our grandparents built St Hedwig's for us, every time I walk into St Hedwig's I wonder which pew my grandmother liked to sit in or which stone my grandfather set. St Hediwg's is filled with many memories. As I read all the email's from everyone ---your memories are still with you. Your memories are still alive, you can revisit them and keep them alive just by your presents. We all take vacations to visit Historical places to learn where our country came from and investigate areas of interest. St Hedwig's is where we came from and we all should pass this down to our children as our grandparents did for us. Once the doors close it's unlikely they will ever open again. St James has been sold it will never open to be what it once was. St Anthony's is now a different place it pains me to drive by and see what has happen to it now. St Hedwig's is still open and is a living memory. I hope to see all of you when my tour is complete. God Bless you all.

Class of 63: Ranger Joe's cereal factory across from the school.Classroom windows open on warm Spring days; smelling the toasted oats.Climbing in the boxcars behind the factory at night to dive in the puffed rice; getting caught. Buying pea shooters at Kurek's at lunchtime and getting caught with them in class. The Nuns allowing us to listen to the Phillies games on our transistor radios in class during the playoffs and world series the Phillies were in.(This was 1960-1963, folks). Walking past Kaniefski's funeral home and ringing the doorbell at the same time everyday at lunch; and....getting caught. 'Little Ceasar'(Frank Gunia)on the last day of 8th grade, trapping him up in the loft in the back of the auditorium and throwing all the coat hangers at him, getting caught. All the guys jealous of David Hentosh because he was such a great guitarist, and he was allowed to wear those cool side tie shoes with the cuban heels and cleats on the front and back. Playing the 'Untouchables' in the playground at recess. Joe Smagala was Al Capone. Frank Stefchik was Elliott Ness. We all had a crush on the new Nun who came to St Hedwigs. Her white cardboard chest protector was curved instead of the usual flat shape. The Nuns used some kind of soap or lotion that made them smell like oranges when you got close to them. Being sent to the cloak room for an hour. Who was the woman crossing guard at 4th and Wilson ? She knew every kid's first and last name, and was always friendly to everyone. Taking out the wooden sawhorses to block the traffic for recess. End of recess: two bells: the first bell=freeze where you are, the second bell= walk don't run, back to class. In the month of May, we all took a turn bringing in a homemade crown made out of fresh flowers to crown the statue of Mary. Hiding cigarettes in the compartment in the back of the Blessed Mother statue where they kept the candles; perfect hiding spot. The railroad detective coming to our class to find out who threw a rock at the train and broke a passenger window.Joe Gornick did it, but no one told. Playing king of the mountain on the tracks at the Wirtz toothpaste tube factory. Memorial Park tackle footbal; no equipment. Tom Murphy getting hit by a car and coming back to our class after almost a year of rehabilitation. Big Mike the janitor. Soft pretzel salt in our desks all year.

Wow wish I would have known about this web site. How is everyone. Remember how we would be encouraged to give to the missions ? Well I'm on the other side now in the missions. As part of OEF here in Africa I go to the missions when I can and offer my assistence to the missions. St Hedwig's has given tons of support to these needy children. It's pretty cool to be able to send them pictures b showing the children wearing the clothes the Parish has sent over. So yes I'm serving my country should be home soon then it will be off to Iraq. Feel free to drop me an email.
Despite the ups and downs life may throw your way life at St Hedwig's I would not trade for anything.

Just thought I would say "Hi!" to Brian and Fran. Do you guys remember when Sister Providentia ran and caught Danny . I know i never thought she could run! lol. Anyway, if you guys know what happened to or talk to anyone else from our grade, please let me know. It would be great. Paul lives in MD. haven't seen Anthony since St. Hedwig's 90th anniversary. Saw Steve Sides a few years ago down Booth's Corner, think he still lives in Marcus Hook. Paula says Mark is doing good, he's married to an eye doctor. Eddie Brysiak was supposed to be deployed to Africa but I haven't heard about him in awhile. My Dad says he has a big family. Saw lisa a few years ago, too. She was doing well. I hope everyone from our class is good. I wish you and everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Hello to class of 1987. I left St. Hedwig's in 1985 and missed the days I didn't get to finish at the place I spent so many wondeful days. I loved my experience there. I cannot remember the teacher, but does anyone remember Chris who used to chew on the pencil holders we bought from the school "store"? Remember when he was put in the closet for chewing on of those things? The nuns may have been strict, but look...it's giving us all stories to tell.

Cousin Joe, The platform at Christmas with the trains and the tree all decorated is still one of my favorite memories of growing up. My Grandfather removed the lionel train whistle and put a button on the platform that you could press to make the whistle go off as many times as you wished. The Lionel train originally was my moms when she was growing up, my grandfather added the HO trains I believe after my brother and I were born. I remember the cukoo clock being in the dining room, but my mom said for a number of years it was in the living room. My mom still has the train and the train platform. I also remember hiding under the platform hoping to catch Santa Claus bringing all the Christmas presents, but always got caught by my Grandfather or mom. Thanks for bringing back one of the best memories of my childhood !

I think that this site is also a great place to meet old friends, and rekindle past friendships as I have been fortunate enough to do. I have also made new friends here as well. When someone is asking me about my personal experiences, that I have shared on this site I personally like to know who I am talking to... but this is America and a free site to post to. I continue to share my memories in hopes of meeting old and new friends, and helping others remember what a great place St. Hedwigs and Chester was to grow up in. I am proud of my heritage, and not embarassed to put my name with my memories.

Mike: Need to share a moment in time. Was sitting at my desk the other day and for some unknown reason was taken back to your grandfather's house - my Uncle Eddy. Standing in the front room and looking at the Christmas tree up on the platform with the little village all lit up and Uncle Eddy running the train. Then I turned and looked behind and saw the big cookoo clock on the wall.
Had to share the moment with you. I'm sure you've been there - been there, seen that.

Kathy, It seems you are much braver then some of the folks who enter this site. I guess its like raising your hand in class, some people rathered be called upon then volunteer information. Which reminds of another episode at St. Hedwigs. Which of the sisters use to say... "You can stir coffee and you can stir tea but you can't stir me".. which would happen when everybody new the answer and would raise their hand and say sister, sister...hoping sister would call on them for the right answer !

1) Mr.Mitska- he was our first scout leader, I remember camping trip to Claymont Park (leaking umbrella tents, then using the Army pup tents because they didn't leak) the first time and going away for a week in the summer at Camp Delmont in Delaware (Got the worse case of poison ivy in my life... eye lids, ears everywhere !). We also did a couple of Jamborees but I don't remember where.
2)Lou Morowicki and Mr. Golembieski, where we had the more Marine Corp approach (up at the crack of dawn, pushups, jumping jacks, etc.). I remember going to Resicca Falls in the Poconos for summer camp, doing the mile swim with Jimmy Szczpeniak for a merit badge, and then hiking to a mountain stream to go swimming and almost drowning due to exhaustion.
The boy scouts were a lot of fun... then when I was a member we focused more on having a good time... especially camping. What else would expect after growing up in the city ! I think after we moved away 1973 the scouts took things more seriously and worked on becoming Eagle Scouts.

Yes, Ed I do remember .... I just do remember who ducked. I also remember many a time being in trouble with Sister Providentia. I remember her first day teaching our 6th grade class and no matter how I sat in my seat she kept telling me to sit up a straight...finally she said you come up here now... and I got the double hand face slap from both sides. I remember the other side of her after I had graduated and had come back to visit St. Hedwigs when I was in college. She introduced me to her class and said that this man use to be in this same class room just like you (students) when he was younger ... and now he's a grown young man in college. After I left the sixth grade we were the best of friends. Sister Matilda and Sister Providentia kept saying that I would make a great priest.....but that didn't end up being my life's calling. I think thats the problem with a lot of kids today no discpline at home or in school. I remember never going home and telling my mom or grandparents that I got punished or hit by the sisters cause you would get in trouble again for not behaving in school. Today kids call 911 and have their parents arrested....I would take the old days in a heart beat.

Altar boy Flashback: I'm sure that my brother and I weren't the only altar boys this happened to...but, I remember serving mass after they changed the altar to face the congregation and the monsigor who was getting up there in years would "break wind" as we were kneeling facing facing the exit point, of course being young boys we couldn't help but laugh, and of course the sisters who were in the front pews did not find our laughter very funny, and of course after returning to school you couldn't just say Sister Matilda/Providentia I was just laughing because the Monsignor farted ...this was not something that was part of altar boy training !!

OK now, let's see who remembers....2nd Grade with Sr. Paschaline; waking up at ungodly hours for Easter Procession; movies in the new school basement; air raid drills in the school basement; the play for someone's jubilee ( I was in 1st grade and had to dress as a turnip!); the girl's " growing up and liking it" movie UGH!; Halloween Parade from school to Highland Ave. down to 3rd St. and back to the auditorium for the party; practicing Polish Christmas carols for the local radio station; CYO cooking and sewing classes; Oh Boy! the dam broke now! Just wanted to say hi to everyone from St. Hedwig's! I especially wanted to say hi to my class of 1990! I could list all the names since there were only 12 in the whole graduating 8th grade class. I will never forget the Friday night CYO basketball games. We didn't win very many, but you could always count on St. John Chystomsyn for our one win a year! Remember the bomb scare on Christmas Eve Mass...I was in second grade and carried the baby Jesus! All I can say is that was the coldest night of my life!

and give him a cup of soup and a sandwich every once in a while.. She did that for a lot of the guys (drunks or whatever) She didn't like to see them go hungry... I do remember that they all treated her with respect.. Sometimes she would see them out on the corners and just take them a sandwich.. She caught my brother Mike and I teasing Joe one time and she whipped our butts. Grandmothers could still do that once in awhile and if anyone had a problem with it she'd whip them too.

Carol,
Wow, I had forgot about Joe Spuck, my grandfather told that he was shell shocked from World War I, I remember seeing him sleeping in a refigerator by the railroad tracks just north of 4th and wilson street. Thats where they found him when he died, I remember his white beard, and the cap that he always had on. He mostly hung out by the bar at 3rd and highland ave. I remember the wooden roller coaster, grabbing the brass rings on the merry go-round and all the bumper cars at Lenape. Thanks for the flash back to Joe Spuck.

I also was remembering the swings at Lenape Park. These are just a couple of memories. I can't type as fast as the memories are flooding my mind. My regards to the "Class of 1966".

Diane, Thanks for the memory of Miss Speck... I remember making her mad ( I thought I was a saint !), and she told me to go back to 2nd Grade for the rest of the day due to my behavior, instead I left the school out the back doors by the bathrooms and ran home, really sneaking home thinking the police and everyone would know I left school early... thank goodness it was close to the end of the day. Please give her my best ! How is your mom doing ? Please give her my best...she was a great Den mother and really made it fun to be scout. Don't you also have a sister Carol ? Denise/Kathy,
Do you remember who owned the small restaurant (like Sloppy Joes) that was down in Trainer on 3rd street. I remember there were two older ladies who ran the restaurant, they had a pinball machine and bar with stools that you could get served at. It was on the left had side as you headed towards Marcus Hook ? Try as I may I can't recall the name. Thanks, Mike

Unknown Visitor !
I remember McMasters TV closing when I was a kid during late 60's maybe 70/71. Stanley Cal (Cal's), sold the business to Pearl ( I don't remember her last name). Her husband was named Bo and they had a son who was a Chester policeman. Bo use to have a store down by Red's the barber on 3rd street that had a couple of pinball machines and a pooltable prior to he and his wife buying Cal's ( I spent a lot of my allowance on playing pinball at Bo's and Sloppy Joe's !). His wife Pearl use to work for Stanley Cal. I'm not sure if the store is still opened. I'm not sure when Todd's store closed.
Denise ... Thanks for the kind words !

Michael, Yes, the see-saw thing, not to get bumped when the other person jumped off, how about flipping them? Yes, of course the gymp (sp?) necklaces, or keychains where made from plastic in three or fours the box was a popular one, the potholders yes, what a memory that was weaving them and tying the knots at the end, how about the hula hoop contests? I remember Phil Workman, Bert, and a few "Older guys" always picking up a basketball game later on in the night. Also, the lunch truck, never tried their food but I do remember them coming, was it Mays water ice as well? Did you ever climb up under the big slide and flip? Who was Comisiak anyway, the marker still is there. Great memories thanks for the reminders.

Kathy, I do remember the merry go round, see-saws (spl? - the big thing was not to get bounced, when the guy on the bottom jumps off when your up in the air !), and the big slide. When we went through town the other week we went by the park.... they were all gone. They had rocking horses where the see saws were. Were the gimp necklaces those that were made of plastic like string that you weaved together ? I remember everybody making potholders at the picnic table, there use to even be a covered top over the picnic table so you could still go to the park when it rained. I remeber the big steel box that the park & recreation folks delivered that was packed with balls, bats, games, etc. and everyone would jocky for position when it was opened to get what they wanted to play with first.

St. Hedwigs has always been close to my heart, many happy times. I lost touch with your cousin, Karen, back in High School and I have always wondered how she is doing. I am not exactly sure why we lost touch, but that happens as we grow older. She was a big part of my childhood and we had such good times. I thought that I would ask you how she was and if there was any possibility that she might like to correspond whether by email or telephone. I am sort of hesitant because I am not sure if she would want to. Thanks Alot. Monica (Cylc) McGee.

Infact, it was Dave Chominski's sister Diane who patched me up with the wonderful first aid kit in the silver box with the lock, sent me home and told me to go to Sacred Heart Emergency. Dragnet? You wouldn't happen to be one of the Christines that lived on Thurlow street when I was growing up. Christine Cello (Spl) who went to Holy Ghost ( I believe her dad was a Chester cop) and Christine Kovalchuck (Spl)who went to St. Hedwigs ( was in my brother Patrick's class and had an older bother Ted). I was just telling my daughter how my mom use to keep an on eye on us from the upstairs bathroom at our home, she had a view of the whole ally. I remember playing all day from sun up to sun down and my parents never being worried, unlike todays world.

The childhood we had growing up in our neighborhood,( Hayes St. to Trainer St., Sixth to Front St.) was the best a kid could have. No cares, no worries. Going to the park, playing ball in the alley between Highland and Thurlow or the field on 2nd. St. (cinders), riding bikes ALL day or just playing outside and always having something to do. Our parents knew all the kids and didn't hesitate to keep us inline if needed. Walking up to 3rd.St. and being able to get just about anything a kid would need. I always tell my kids I wouldn't trade growing up in our neighborhood for anything, it was the best. At least we have those memories to treasure.

I'm hoping to do a fishing trip to the outerbanks this fall with some of my old friends from St. Hedwigs. I hope all is well with your family. I do remember the lunch truck at comisiak park. I've been trying to remember the name of the farm huckster who use to make the rounds in the neighborhood with his old beat up step up van/truck selling produce, etc. I remember Joey Brezicki working for him one summer. On my trip thru town I did try and stop by Kji's bakery so my daughter could try one of their glazed donuts, but they had just closed. I made a video tape of my grandmothers house and the back alley before she moved in with my mom so at least I have something that I can show my daughter that better reflects the home I grew up in .

Cousin Mike, I talked with your mom and she told me about the trip to Chester.. About a month ago, my mother and a friend took a ride to 3rd and Highland. She took some pictures and I couldn't believe it. Our home is gone..as many of the others... She sent me a picture of Tommy's grocery store on 2nd and I had to look twice cause I couldn't believe it. Nothing they do can take away the memories and it was the best and still is in our hearts.. And this page sure does help to keep it alive...

Michael, I am very sorry that your daughter had to experience that feeling. My children as well couldn't believe I lived in the house I did, played in the "alley's" and park, they asked where is the mulch? Why would someone take the swings, or see-saws etc. Michael, do you remember the lunch truck at Comisiak park? Have you heard from Chuckie or Eddie Drybala lately? Take care.

Thanks for your message. No one can take away the memories and experiences we had growing up in Chester, for in my memories everything is still as it was a great place that I wouldn't trade. Its hard to imagine that three generations of my family lived in the same home on second street. I have lived in eight different homes since we first moved away... I guess that's another thing that doesn't happen often in Chester anymore either. I am still proud of having grown up in Chester, and always will be.

Michael Shea, Sorry to hear the experience your daughter had while taking a drive where we grew up. Unfortunately they are trying to widen the street 2nd street Rt 291 and rename it to Senator Bell Hgwy put in a casino etc. It might come back, but your home where you grew up will never have the sidewalks swept or the porch washed as your parents kept it so many years ago. I think it was a weekend thing. Perhaps she can see some photos, yearbooks etc and help her to understand. I'm sorry it was scary for her I know its scary for me as well.
