About that 81-82 Football Team,not taken anything away from those 4 guys listed below, but that Whole Team was the true meaning of the word "TEAM".Everyone from Mr. Klotz, to the Quaterback, to the Runningbacks , to the Linemen and so on and so on( even the Cheerleaders were great!!!!)I think about those days alot!!!

Getting back to the 81-82 St Roberts football. The reason why the team was so great, was not only because of Ferrante, Tyler, Malick, Trusty etc.. (by the way were great) but It was the coaching of Mr Klotz and oh yes Mike Culbert.

I was wondering if anyone has heard from Eileen Froggatt. I attended St. Roberts for a year in the early 60's. I use to pick on her terribly. I sat behind her and pulled her hair and would mutter "frooggeettt!" repeatedly. She once turned around and stabbed me with her pencil, I still carry the noticeable piece of led in my arm. Of all the different schools I attended in the Delaware County area I remember St. Roberts most fondly.

Can you believe we left St. Roberts 36 years ago? I see alot of the girls at our ND class reunions which are alot of fun. There has been talk at the past few reunions about getting together for a grade school reunion but nothing seems to ever take off. My son and daughter also graduated from there. My daughters class was the very first graduating class from the new BKD at the time. I did not arrive at St. Roberts until the middle of 5th grade, going to St. Joseph in Aston grades 1-first half of 5th. and I am back to St. Josephs again.

You know there were 5 of us to go through St. Roberts and I thought I would take a minute to update you and anyone else who might like to know. Marie 72'(I think) is married (22yrs) living in California with 2 children. Ann 74' is married living in Glen Mills with a 13yr old Daughter. Dorothy class of 75' is married with 2 sons and is living in Flagstaff Arizona. Micheal class of 78' is married with 3 children and he is also in Glen Mills. It was nice to see messages from our class ( Mike Malick, Natalie April, Wendy Sokoloff, Ed Hayes, the Manchin's,Willy Lebus and others) and would love to see some of my old class mates. What fun stumbling across the folks who appear here. Kept seeing the siblings of folks in my class and it made me start to doubt my memory -- I thought she was Susan, not Maria -- until the sibling thing hit me. I'm out in the Bay Area going on six years teaching at Mills College. My brother John (74) is in West Chester and Paul (78) lives in Indianapolis.
Each time I come across old grade school photos when packing or unpacking boxes I think about organizing some sort of class of 73 thing, but just haven't got over the energy hump yet to actually do something. Anybody out there want to co-conspire?

They just gave me the "Rodney Dangerfield Back to School Award at Neumann College." Word has it you are a candidate for the same award at Immaculata. from Karen Lee Flynn (Flim-Flam) 1971, daughter of the infamous Mrs JM Flynn (with the bun) teacher of many StR classes (most notable 1983) and a grad herself: Jean Marie Connors, class of 1945! Just wanted you all to know how much my mother enjoyed reading over my shoulder as we reviewed this great website! She remembered so many of you! (and had some great stories to share). She particularly enjoyed being invited to the '83 class reunion. She wants me to pass on how proud she is of so many of her ex-students, she has often said that these were her happiest years, and that the success of her students is often a teacher's greatest reward. She enjoys seeing you now as good parents. And she also shares your sorrow at the recent loss of some of your classmates. In addition, she and I thank you for all your thoughts and prayers that came following the recent death of my father in October. It was nice to see so many familiar faces at his funeral service at St Roberts (it will never be "KD" to me!) Hopefully, she will start back teaching soon, at Charity, Holy Savior, St Joe's, and OLP; and thus will be continue to be inspirational to your children (and perhaps some grandchildren!)

Yes, for those who are interested, St. Robert's - now Saint Katharine Drexel - does indeed have a Midnight Mass. The choir begins at 11:30, followed by Mass. The Mass is now in English and Spanish! It's quite beautiful!

Anyone from the St. Robert's class of 1971 have any good stories about my best friend Mr. Bill April. He tells me that when he left REZ for St. Robert's he became a role model student, which I find hard to believe after seeing how crazy he acted in St. James. That's what I love about the guy, he hasn't lost his love for life or his sense of humor. I havent' ran into a lot of people from our class. Sue Larkins e-mailed me here at work and I'm so glad she did. However, guess who I DID run into?! Sister Margaret! She is with St. Kevin's Parish in Springfield and I nearly died when I saw her behind the desk at the rectory! I was scared to death of her. We chatted for a while and I finally got up the nerve to tell her how petrified I was of her - she had no idea! She is still in contact with Sister Marie (she was my favorite), and I have had to go to St. Rob's on behalf of my job, so I got to say "hi" to Mr. Hennessey. He saw me first and said, "Hello Miss Vona"! In my opinion, he hasn't changed a bit.
Timmy, thanks for the laughs and the memories! You are still one of the nicest guys I have ever known!

I haven't been on this website since October of 2001 and what a surprise. Some of the names I have read bring back a lot of memories. Sue Larkins, Tina Vona from the greatest class of 79 from St. Robert's. Whats up girls. I ran into Terry Manchin a few weeks ago at the Pathmark in Brookhaven. She hasn't changed a bit. Whatever happened to Tina Caruso, the first girl who caught my eye back in my younger days. Family's from the old stomping grounds, Sun Hill, like the Drane's, Kessler's, Morrison's, Manchin's, Tosto's, Ockernuke's, Keryluk's,Antonelli's, Battinieri's, McNeal's, Fromholzer's, Dodds', Bonner's, Talone's, April's, Goodman's, Willhauer's, Bychowski's, Caruso's, Dougherty's, Ruland's, Pettit's, Greenleaf's, Pierdemenico's, McCormack's, and Schumm's to name a few. Wanne be Sun Hillers like Bill "Pumper" Lewis and Mike Culbert who was lucky enough to marry one of the Manchin girls. Who remembers hanging out at the Campus Casino before it was a bar drinking milkshakes and eating candy at the counter. Ice hockey on Wideners lower field by Stetser when the drain pipe got clogged and the field iced over. Throwing snowballs at cars on Melrose Ave. Sledding down the hill in Washington park on stolen cafeteria trays from Widener and staying warm by a 55 gallon drum fire at the top of the hill. Walking underground in the storm pipe from the basketball courts, underneath the phys ed building and jumping into the creek. The ROTC helicopters landing on the football field on a moments notice. Sneaking into the St. James and P.M.C. football games without getting caught.Marching with the STJ band as they paraded up Melrose Ave. Hoping to be chosen by an Eagle to carry his helmet to and from practice. (My guy was Richie Harris no. 84) Lenoard Tose flying in on his Eagle helicopter. The Eagles playing the Baltimore Colts in an exhibition game. Eating a large Lemon Cherry mix water ice off the Mays Water ice truck along with 2 soft pretzels with spicy mustard. Flashlight tag in the alleys behind 16th, 15th, Washington Ave. and Melrose Ave. The story about Harry the Hackoff who lived under the bridge leading into Ridley. Old man Whitey News who lived on 16th street. The Hippy house which was located on 16th street. Chasing the mosquito truck on bikes not being able to see 2 feet ahead of you. As you can see I have some fond memories of the old neighborhood. I am interested in hearing from the old gang. Maybe we could surprise Tom Drane one night at the Chadds Ford Tavern. Looks like many people wish to remain anonymous.
Since it’s true confession time, I can tell you that I had a crush (seems like the wrong word since it felt so special) on Kathy Manchin for all 8 years at St. Roberts (I was also very shy). I think she knew. Around third grade, we used to ride our bikes together and talk. I enjoyed this so much, but I don’t think she realized how much happiness just these few moments brought to my life. Whenever I was near her, I felt such wonderous feelings, that I cannot put into words. The first time I saw her I fell into some sort of new world that was vibrant and beautiful. Most of all, I hope that the past 38 years have been kind to Kathy and that she is now living a happy life with all of the things she ever desired. On the other hand my life will exist in shades of gray instead of vibrant colors, and I will be less than whole, but that’s my problem.

It sure is great to see a St Robert’s web site. Thank you to the person(s) that took the time to create this. Looks like I’m the only one posting from the class of ’65 and what a great class. Right away I remember several of the girls and guys, and hope they’re all doing well today. My memory immediately brings to mind Kathy Manchin, Cathy Holmes, Judy Rupnick, Leslie Sokolff, Charlene Resowics, Eileen Hayes, Fran Fromholzer, Chris Gorbey, Bob Keller, Jack Lewis, and Al Slowick (sorry if I misspelled any names, and am really sorry for those who are not coming to mind right now – I’ll have to locate our class picture and really reminisce). There are others on my mind, but I’m afraid I’d do too much injustice to the spelling of your names. I’ve been in Southern CA for 17 years now and am finally beginning to like it. At first the earthquakes, constant traffic congestion, smog, and other negatives almost made me leave, but I worked with some really great people and began to enjoy the Southern CA lifestyle. I worked for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory as a Senior Project Engineer (hate when they tag me with the Senior title – makes me feel older!). I am now working as Director of Engineering for Southern CA at Time Warner Telecom, but desire to go back to JPL. Eight years together at St. Robert's showed me that you are all very special people and I will remember you always. I was just in Chester last July to visit family and drove past our school several times, and it looks great as ever. I hope some of the ’65 class find this web site since I would really enjoy hearing from all of you. A reunion sometime would also be great!

Hey everyone. Greetings to class of 76 and everyone else from the old days of Chester/St. Roberts/St. James. Sports memories for me are more geared towards the team with Dave Groch, Bob Dodds, Mike Dougherty, Mike Malik, Ed Zetusky, Brad Fitzgerald and myself. The tough rivalries we had that year were OLC and Holy Saviour- we always seemed to trade back and forth with them that year. The best memory I had was when we won the St. James tournament that year. When you are part of something special like the best St. Robert's football team you never forget the players. Don Dodds, John April, Rusty Allen, Carmen Amalfitano, John Tkacz, Jimmy Turnbach, Buck Bychowski, Mark Shaeffer, Tom Elliott, Mike Culbert... I have to check the picture hanging in my basement... we are all there on the wall of fame and we are all still alive and kicking.... the only team that could beat us was St. Aloyuisous? because they imported some big dummies who had alot of money... but when the left Chester they never forgot who gave them the shake... rattle and roll... taught by the best coaches... Mr.Slowik and Mr. Pendergast......... next... The 1974 Chester Biddy National Champ Stories.... anyone part of that history out there???? Only a few can put that in their resume`...... over and out Chesterites and Hillers and Bobcats.....

The '82 team had Ferrante, Tyler, Malick and Trusty on the front line (both "O" and "D")and Earl Hogendorn in the backfield, which is imposing a grade school squad as ever has been seen. I don't doubt the '74 team was good, but if Buck was on that team, they couldn't have been that good. Buck wasn't the most gifted athlete we've ever seen. He's still trying to figure out why he could never stop Mop from taking him off the dribble down at Washington Park!!!!!!

If your talking about "The best football team ever" at St. Roberts, it was not the 1974 team.It was the 1981-82 team!!! If I can remember correctly, that team was unbeatable that year. Not only were they Division "C" Champs and City Champs of Chester, but were invited to play in "The Parade of Champions" in Philadelphia. I'd say that wasn't a bad team!!! I know, I played on that team!!!!

While at dinner last week with Diane (Litwin – St. Hedwigs ’69) Moffitt and our spouses at Harrahs, I was told about this great website. The site unlocked so many memories , perhaps too many. . Of course there were always those secret crushes that we harbored but too shy to act upon, the safety lines that turned a ten minute walk into an long procession with Mrs. Stoop being the ever present Crossing Guard at the end of our journey, the camaraderie of the sports teams and the friends earned from the other teams, the sports triple crown in ’63 –’64 with Ward Fisher making that super catch against Rez, Jerry Ryan & myself racking up 15 rebounds against Rez (on one possession -neither of us could make a basket), my plunking Rolo from Our Lady of Charity after having walked the bases loaded during my pitching debut, the beautiful voice of the choir, the clicker, smacking the chalk out of the erasers, Sister Joseph Margaret sitting on Michael Hoys marshmallow hotdog, Mike Finn swallowing that JFK button, Michael McDade with paper shoved in his mouth and the sliding doors in the back of the classroom holding his head from moving, Chopper Sweeney (school custodian), recess and having Colleen Donlevey rip her claws through my shirt, breaking my arm doing illegal flying tackles during practice then earning my first and only “very good” from Palmer penmanship using my non-writing hand. Monsignor Mulhern’s Candy Cupboard Chocolates at Christmas, his camp, his funeral mass, Sammy Dynow cracking jokes not only when I had to make the welcoming speech to our new pastor Father Keenan but during Funeral Services that we served….. Having three sisters Dot who resides in Quakertown (’57 and a friend and classmate of both Miss Grace- 3rd grade and Miss Maryjane – 5th grade), Midge (’60) now in State College and Pat (’63) who lives in Derwood Md and still thinks that she’s the May Queen, and my brother Paul (’68), I found that I recognize many of the names being passed back and forth. I still see on occasions Diane (Shallet – ‘66) Shopf and Marie (Hoffman – ’66) Clark. Ran into Ed Harron and Phil Harding (both of ’68) while involved with Kedron Youth Association. Also saw Phil while he was wearing the black & white stripes at several O’Hara football games. Ed Adamcyck (’66) and I worked together helping as Band Parents for Cardinal O’Hara. Eileen (Hayes – ’65) Dickens is a teacher at O’Hara. We could all write volumes on our memories (I think that I did) so I’ll stop here. If you’d like, drop a line. I’m not going anywhere.

Well, we didn't get much response to our Class of "83 Reunion committee meeting. Just Dom and I showed and did some planning. you don't get it...I don't give a crap where he is. He can be in jail for all I care. I am not nominating him for sainthood. It's just about bball. He was very good, its that simple. where he is or what he did or did not do since then has nothing to do with my comments. You seem to have some insight that suggests that he screwed up. OK> but before he screwed up, he was a great ball player. this cracks me up. I try to share some memories with people from the guys grade school thinking that they would be appreciated and I get jumped. What the hell did he do, burn the church down?? Christ, if the guy has some problems you would think that the people he grew up with would have some symapthy. I dont know where he is now but if you do, tell him that a guy from Ohio enjoyed watching him play. Look, I am not his agent. I'm just a guy who played, coached and watched a lot of basketball. I just wanted to share a few thoughts about a player who I enjoyed watching. I thought that maybe his old grade school would appreciate it, but you obviously have an axe to grind. I cant speak for Donnie Dodds as a person or academically. But as a ball player, he was a legitimate talent. I think he demonstrated that consistently as a HS player. Although his college career was short lived, I recall Temple vs Virginia when Donnie Dodds went up against All American and future NBA star Jeff Lamp and had him for lunch. Look it up... Dodds held lamp to single digit scoring for the only game in his college career and stole the ball from him 5 or 6 times while scoring 20+ points and dishing out assists like a mad man. He is not my hero, just a guy I enjoyed watching play. Maybe his actions off the court justify your lack of respect but if you set that aside and objectively talk about his basketball skills he was a player. Are all you St Roberts people so uptight?

Former Delco resident and basketball coach. Saw a lot of games during my lifetime but to this day the best player I remember seeing at the high school level was not a big tall dominant player, it was Donnie Dodds, a St. Roberts product. He could handle the ball and dish out assists with the best of them. I remember him in some great matchups against much bigger and better teams from Chester High and he dominated. Former NBA coach Paul Westhead said of Donnie Dodds in a Phila. Inquirer article "I have only seen one other player who can do things with a basketball like Donnie Dodds and that player is Pistol Pete Maravich" He made this statement when Dodds was a high school senior. Thanks for some great memories. Hope Mr. Dodds is doing well and knows that at least one BBALL fan appreciates his talents.

I ran into kathy groch at the Notre Dame 35th reunion, which was great and she told us about the class of 68, St. Robert's Reunion. I'm alive and well and my memories of St. Roberts from 1960-68 are still Good (wow, thoses 70's were tough on the brain cells) After I found this web site and read the notes from everyone, I dug out my only class picture, it happens to be 5th grade,1965,Miss Grace Bossinger's Class (hey, she was HOT! ha ha) Somewhere along the line I had the insight to write everyones name on the picture. Remember the good old days...hanging in Chester Park, snowball fights with Louie Litwin, Joe Bratun, Gloria Dugan, Sue MacNeilly, Billy & Rhonda Kandravi, etc. Talent shows at the bandstand. Wow! I can't believe this! This is really cool. I've talked with so many people about a Class of '68 reunion. Graduated Class of 1970. Remember the safety picnics at Lenape Park. Remember Granny. I was in Mrs. Quinn's class. Her famous punishment was to write the times tables 5 x's for talking. I know them in and out today because I did them so much. Her mugwump corner. Our plaid uniforms, I hate plaid to this day. I went there for bingo a couple of years ago, brought back great memories.
