Hi Wanda...I remember you also. The last time I saw you was on the softball field. I believe you were a pitcher for your High School team.

Hi Shelly, did you get the email I sent recently? Apologies for losing contact with you last year, due to moving. Hope to get back in touch again.

Welcome back Vel. I was fighting a serious computer crash and had to totally reboot, lost lots and lots of information but will get it back in time. Isn't it strange and yet so wonderful to visit places you thought you knew so well in your youth. Our worlds (and minds) were so limited then that we never even realized how large the world really is. As we slowly mature emotionally and experiencially we seem to forget how little space we actually occupied in our youth. Quite a shocker to return and find that the streets appear narrower, the homes smaller, the distance between houses closer than we recalled! Just how did we ever manage to play softball on those vacant lots without breaking a lot more windows is like a small miracle to me everytime i see a 100 x 100 double lot! Have a great day and keep up the great work.

Hello Wanda!!! Great to see you caught up with this website. Isn't it great???!!! I have been thinking about you for the last month and had planned on calling Sharon Natale to see if she had your phone number. Sounds like the Franklin Mint is really changing. I spoke with Nancy Flanagan a while back and she was filling me in on everything. is it true Kandy Robinson is the Manager now? Wow, she really went far there. Sounds like you have, too. Tell Sandy and Kandy and If June Bruce is there, hello for me. Also, if you would email me your address, I can add it also any of your sisters. Thanks

My trip back in time was wonderful but not nearly long enough. We actually had to come home for some rest... Took some pictures of Trainer School (felt really sad), had lunch with Sherry and Sharon. Also had a nice breakfast, Thurs. with Bonnie Birney, another Trainerite. She looks exactly the same, anyone would know her. Also took pictures of the 2 different homes we grew up in, one on Langley and the one my father built on Price. I believe there is a Joe Farren living there now. it made me a little sad to see how rundown some of the homes in Trainer are becoming. I guess that is the way with all old towns. Seems alot of the homes that were bad when I was growing up are now beautiful and visa versa. When did trainer become so small and the streets so narrow? It is amazing how different things look now. We had a nice visit with a few of the older folks that I remembered as a child, Betty Johnson and Gertrude Birney. I wish I could have visited with everyone. We had a wonderful family reunion. It is so special to see everyone. my cousin, Patsy Ware, was there also (another Trainerite) and we also stopped and visited her for a day in Manassas, Va on the way home. Well, came home to over 175 emails, cleared out the junk and still responded to about 47. i am almost caught up, so will be emailing john with some new names and deleting some old ones. Sorry for the long email.....

Vel - OOOPS! My fingernails got in the way on the last message. Sorry.

Welcome back to the page. We missed you.

Heard from Sherry that you went to the Marcus Hook diner for lunch. I remember that place fondly.

Last August when I was back in Trainer the refinery was going to tear the school down. I'm glad to hear it's still standing. Did you go up and try and peak in the windows? I did - that's when the security guard from the refinery came over to see what I was up too. (Must of looked suspiscious!)

Did you go to Johnson Park and look at Trainer Creek and the rocks? Folks still paint them but the water is just a small pool now. I remember being terrified to cross them when the river was running rapidly.

Also, did you go up by Cox pool? Last August it looked like they were going to fill it in.

Time changes everything.

Share some of your trip with the group.

Lois

Richard, didn't you see what the webmaster said. This is a site for all the people to get back in touch with old friends, not a trash site so if you don't have nice things to say about everyone then don't say anything. It is nice of you to say nice things about your wife I am sure she lives it too. But keep all your thoughts to yourself and let this web site be as it was supposed to be.

Donna - Last summer my brother and I attended a family reunion in PA. We decided to try and find Lenape Park while we were there. It's still open, only to company parties now.

The roller coaster is gone, as is the merry go round. They've taken the animals from the merry go round and displayed them in the gazebo and on the rooves of several buildings.

If you go to google.com and search Lenape Park you will find some photos of the old rides including the roller coaster!

I had forgotten about the May Court. Thelma Gammon was our queen in 1964. I think Charlene Wilkerson was in the court also. Wonder if anyone out there knows who the others were that year?

For some strange reason I remember them being announced and crowned in the cafeteria. Could that be? What a strange place if so.

OMG, how could I ever forget learning how to jitterbug with the frige door!. Thank goodness I had so many siblings that i didn't have to "save all the dances" for the fridge! I am just a bit older than you, but i do remember Mrs Hersey and her "PETS". She was an absolute sweetie, and tried to include a little lesson in pride, respect and ethics when we weren't expecting it! I never had Mr Stopper for classes, but watched the younger students fall in love with him (as we older ones had done with jerry desmond!) before donning my cap and gown and going on to EHS. The sleep overs/ pajama parties were always a hoot, frozen undies were a MUST for at least one guest to find in the morning! ooohhhh, going to Trainer rocks is another secret just about every kid kept from their parents, but we just had to visit there! Cox's Pool was always a fun place to go, and we were guaranteed to meet some of our school buddies there too. The July 4th fireworks were always fun. I remember them being held on the TGS school ground in the early 50's ( or maybe I am imagining that and mixing them up with some other festivities). Here's a silly bit of trivia for you. In the spring of 1959, our class had only 7 girls in it so they made each of us a place for the May Court! I forget who the queen was (obviously wasn't me or i think i would have remembered!) Maybe Pat or Vel remember. Does anyone else remember the trip to Lenape Park that the SAFETIES got for free. Just loved the wooden roller coaster and the merry-go-round with the rings!

Hi Donna, Yes we had the same address just different street. Here are some of my fond memories...Fehl's store (old Charlie), Ben's,Trainer 8th grade prom and graduation,Mrs Hershey and her turtle (pidising), that we each took a turn taking home on the weekends,Miss Felton and knitting those darn nose warmers and slippers whether you wanted to or not,Mr Stopper and his science fair where Robert Dzedzy usually won, crossing the rocks to get to the Trainer Swim Club, their splash parties on Teen Night(whoa, big time)4th of July at the Trainer School, pajama parties(froze someone's bra and panties in my parents freezer and they fell out when my Dad opened it...not a good morning, needless to say, dancing in our living room(mash potato, pony, stroll, using the wood around the door as a partner or the refrig door, practicng slow dancing(come on girls...I know you all did that)...I could go on and on. Sure is fun to look back to fun and happy memories.I will let my Trainer friends I still see know about the reunion and this site (Dodson-Janice and Kirk), Kincaids, Sheaffer-Bruce, Cherlyann, Debbie, Brent, Hydi and Brad, Happy girls

okay picture this, its a bright autumn day, there are a couple hundred people(maybe more) standing around talking about their years at Trainer Grammar School. Whether you attended in 1940 or 1980, no matter who owned the stores or who taught the classes, there were certain constants you could always count on. Remember the wood desks with unused inkwells, slate boards that could hold 300 "I will not talk in class" if written by the offender in a sane manner, and rainy day dances in the gym, recess romps and lunchtime jaunts to the corner stores for pepsi, birchbeer, and tastycakes. Okay maybe you couldnt do the jitterbug frug or twist, or you refrained from having tastycakes and pepsi because your face became one big zit, but there is one thing that that each of us did, whether we were good, bad or just mediocre and that was try our hand (rather lips) at the flutophone. It was the least expensive way to introduce every child to the G Clef and the world of musical instruments. Whether you prevailed or failed miserably at learniing HOT CROSS BUNS, you will never forget the melody. And that's my vision. I would love to see EVERY TGS tiger pucker up one more time and do a flutophone salute to all the wonderful teachers, principals and memories that TGS afforded us. Here's to HOT CROSS BUNS

Hi Michelle, good seeing you out there. Of course we remember you, and john. I am also a nurse (35 yrs)I remember what buddies you and crystal were in your youth! Oh Joe, the house that Larry lived in was his granny's. I called her Aunt Lena, but don't know how (or even if) we were related. The owner of joe's auto shop wanted her to sell the house in the worst way, and pounced rapidly when she died. Had lots of fun times in that house. And the sisters candy store---what a memory. Gallons of pepsi, tons of tastycakes (here we go again!) and loads of zits from such a HEALTHY SNACK! Thanks for reminding me all the goodies. Unsatiable yearnings for those east coast treats have been aroused once again!

Piling in the 9th grade in '62, then change it to A. Piling in 10th grade in '63! Looks like the same person to me, I think it is April tho. Joanne may have gone over to Chichester. Marilyn - In helping Vel put together the list of people who attended Trainer School sometimes I would remember a first name but not the last.

We lived catty corner from the Whitby's on Price St. All I could remember was Ruth and that she had brothers. I called my mom - she couldn't remember their last name. Then I called their old next door neighbor, she couldn't remember.

You have unraveled one more of the mysteries for me!! Thank you.

Did Ruth go to Trainer or to a private school?

Maybe Gene can find an old picture of himself and send it to your e-mail address to help you remember him.

Lois, thanks for the comeback. Haven't had a creamsickle in years, but talking to old friends can make you remember the smallest delights. The WONDER at the tiny joys that fill the days of childhood is what diminishes, and may even be lost as we mature. Reminescing rekindled some of that awe and joy, and reminded me to look for the tiny miracles that surround me every day. Wonder where i can buy a creamsickle. Have a great day.

Donna - I think they were called orange creamsicles. Stewart's makes a soda pop with the same orange and vanilla flavor they call orange creamsicle.

Notice I said soda pop - in PA we called it soda in Michigan they say pop.

Did that popsickle with the orange on the outside and vanilla ice cream have a special name? Loved them only second to the fudgesickle!

Chris, I just spent the best part of the day on the western patio talking to old friends that may help me get leads on some of those names that hang above us. All kinds of memories were evoked. As I watched the radiant sun turn the clouds orange, red and cotton-candy pink over this dry desert I remembered how the sun turned the fields and woods red as we sat on our front steps and enjoyed its slow demise. I do miss the lawns and the smell of the newly fallen rain drying on the grass in the sun. I remain truly in awe of the desert, but i miss the suburban sounds of evening. HEY, do I hear the jingle of the ice cream truck!!!!!

Graduated from Chi-1968. I am a publisher of a mid-western Newspaper. Married to Cindy [from Nashville, TN]. Great southern lady...never pushy, or overbearing. [As you know that's why they are called Southern Ladies.]Pretty too! We have one grandchild, and one on the way. My two sons are successful businessmen. They had a great Mom while I was away. Behind every successful man is a woman...especially my southern lady, charming, warm, and soft-spoken. [An important quality in any marriage.] Dignity and respect along with a marriage of not 50-50, but often 30 to 99% of give-and-take for each. A marriage will work if you want it to. Chichester...was only a stepping-stone, as schools are when in ones youth. You don't remain [inmature] school girls and boys forever. Treasure past memories, but don't become bipolar. Let's grow up! The wording and use of the English language here in Trainer and Chichester is quite evident of lots of "dysfunctional" homes, or personalities. Good-luck-Chichester '04! May you have good times for all of life, not just School-days. Make right choices! Always be nice to the poor, and considerate of others, and God will bless you abundantly! Never lie, and walk humbly in life because your God is not mocked by the way you live. In other words don't be plastic! He expects us all to be our brothers keeper. Real success is others. It's not fine homes,[$$$] and having a mate, it's not sex, or families. Life here is about bringing THE KINGDOM to people, and sharing in this evil world. We will be judged for that! Tell everyone you meet each day about a savior who died on an old rugged cross for all sins...the world is our church...[people]!! We will be judged for pew-sitting while others known in life or never known was not told about a Savior. Perhaps Bill Bright attended your school recently over the years before passing. He was my friend and mentor.

My cousin and I, Martha Hendricks {Houck} attended Trainer School back in 60's or the Class of 62. Lot's of memories. then I...on to Lincoln High, Calumet City, IL. I sort of stayed to myself other than "the twins" or rows of housing still strikes a memory. "Those were the Days. We've all come a long way since then. Married, and have a beautiful home in Chicago. Two grandchildren, Chris and Natalie. which favor the Trach's more than a Davis. Gene's are quite surprising. Also, have a Phillipine [adopted] great-grandchild. He's loved by all. Cory. We give him what his nation could not give, prosperity. Some people are prejudiced if a child is off-color when their own or not. His complexion is of an olive description. For my very own, I prefer same color, light-skinned. It's understandable that both combined families keep a "same" likeness in color....light for light, and dark for dark..but, that is my opinion. I think it works out better for both families involved.-Doreen Trach Davis

Lois, Thanks for noticing the school colors . We were called the Trainer Tigers, during my yrs at Trainer- the diner you refer to was called Al's. We spent some time in there during lunches. The smell of Sinclair sometimes was the worst- we would have to shut the windows facing the refinery "sweat to death" Mr. Stopper is doing well, he is retired, I believe. Sharon Mast has all that news, she is working in the school district- as are some of our other Trainer girls. Interesting how we have such fond memories of our youth- RMA was something we signed on our school pictures-Now, I still can remember people, we're just a lil grayer, more polished, mature, most of all- we have done it all! "If that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing"!!! Life's lil blessings-- Hopefully, we can get in touch with some of our favorite teachers, who may join us , we can go down memeory lane as an intelligent group sharing funny moments Spring & Christmas concerts, May fairs, July 4th,some sad times, but most of all, we are still the same people-more mature. Thank goodness!!! On that note, let's try to get hold of the teachers and the fun people we grew up with in Trainer. Everyone have a beautiful day!

Wow, wasn't this page maroon before? John must have gotten in his paint pot to make it more exciting.

Here's some nostalgia for you...

Does anyone remember what our school colors were?

How about the coconut cream and banana cream pies at the diner on Post Rd. I know I still carry around pounds from eating them almost every day!

Do you remember playing pinball in the back of the diner and listening to Little Stevie Wonder's Fingertips on the juke box? Thought we'd wear that record out playing so much.

Those of you who attend Trainer School in the late 50's/early 60's - remember Mrs. Eisle driving those sporty T-birds?

And the science fairs that Mr. Stopper used to put on? Remember the bomb shelter we built in the gym at one of them? Scared me to death as a kid.

Do you remember playing with mercury in Mr. Stopper's class? If only we knew then what we know now about mercury.

And those styrofoam balls he hung from the ceiling to show us the planets?

I could go on and on about the stuff I learned from him. What a great science teacher he was.

So great to see everyone responding, sure hope we can get it together for a reunion Oct. 2004- with the help from everyone. Looking into places to accommodate us has brought back funny memories.. Didn't we think Lennox Park fire house was sooo big when we were waiting to visit with Santa. It holds 125 people!!! Trainer Methodist Church hall was a nice hall, not sure how many people it can accommodate.. Tri-State Sprots (Sun center) can handle many people," those of us who graduated from Chi remember the huge stage!" Some of us remember it being built, we used to swim at Sun Oil A.A. Thanks to many who want to participate, you will be hearing from me soon. Sharon, thanks for the list, I'll get it to Vel. If anyone has suggestions, please post them on this page, we can work together via e-mail or in person. Do we have any Dj's among us- guitar players - or just groups of people that formed a band when we were young, who can still pick up their instruments as tho it was yesterday? All suggestions will be appreciated- this is for us, so, let's work on getting going. Thanks so much for the time, thanks to the many who want to be a part of this , you are great!!

Anonymous, Thank you for your imput and concern. You're a vey nice person to point these out to us. Pa people are very special. I've lived in 4 different states and everyone always mentions the friendliness of pa people. As far as slang, as with all States, everyone has their own accent and expressions. As a "Christian" you should know not to judge people on the outside. Women from pa are very warm, compassionate people and not all of them have the description you mention. Surely you remember seeing the Blondes, Redheads, petite and fragile women also....

I attended Trainer {66} before leaving for Muncie...my hometown. I liked Trainer School but never quite understood PA. people. They are so "outspoken". And, I also attended the Wesleyan denomination...some professed holiness. "Which they did not have". I am going to be on vacation part of this week and all of next week, so hopefully when i get back I will have alot more addresses to add. Born and raise in Trainer and still live here.Know most of the people who have responded to the website. Saw Sherry Warders the other day out front of my moms house and knew her right away. Sat with her and mom talking about old times. Mom (Millie Okon )still lives here to. 52 years. I lived at 3606 W. 12th street for a couple of years then moved to 1024 Langley St. My oldest son married and moved across the street. I went to Trainer school for 6 years then to the middle school. Would love to see Miss Felton. Remember prayer meeting we had at Sally Browns house, 2 houses up from mine. Miss Felton would take us to her house and we would help her cook dinner for us. Her dad was a nice guy. Remember being a safty. We were the coolest. Also it helped us to keep warm on those cold days. When I went to school we were not allowed to wear pants. We had to wear dresses. Did any one go on the skating trips to the Springfield Country Club with Mr. Stopper? We had a great time. Reading all of the e-mail is so much fun. Didn't see to many from people my age. Like Brenda Talley, Bernie Steffy, George Barrero ( ? )spelling who is now a Dr. Robin Van Horn, Debbie Tulodziski. Saw quite a few on the list that I can get in touch with. A reunion would be great. I work for Chi School Dist as a teachers aide at the high school. Let me know if I can help.

Vel - I read the list of people your looking for and saw so many familar names. I'm mailing info to Sherri Warder because her's is the only mailing address I have. Nancy Cole - I remember many summers we rode our bike all day long no matter how hot it was. I remember riding in the back fields when they were building the "new homes" and the twin houses. Boy, if that were today we would be in so much trouble for trespassing! Donna and Crystal - I think we should have hoagies, steak sandwiches, fries and birchbeer at the reunion! Donna do you still sing? I remember you having a terrific voice. Tim Breaux - My son Anthony was in your class at Trainer School. Vel - I saw Joyce Louth and Barbara Coale and told them about the reunion and the website. You might be hearing from them soon. I'll spread the word whenever I run into any of the "old Trainer gang"!

Buddy's original owners gave up way back in the 80's, but the sandwiches stayed good for another decade or two. It was only a short walk from our home on Sunset to Buddy's and we often used them for the "quick dinner" solution over those years. When we left in '93 the store was open, sandwiches still good, but E&M's and the one in Claymont on old rt. 13 had become our favorite spots for munchin' down! Oh NO, I will gain at least 2 pounds just thinking about those great sandwiches!!!!!!!

I have a book of the list of classmates from the Ridley School district that may have some current addresses if your interested, Vel. When did you heard that Carolyn Thawley was deceased-she was a close friend of mine for years but we lost touch. It will be great to have a reunion next year. All of the names bring me back and it is great!!

Hello Trainerites,

Our family lived in Trainer for 46 years. Moving to Millsboro, De in 1989. We lived on Chestnut St and my sisters were - Harriet, Cindy, Carolyn and Sharon. We all attended Trainer School for all our eight years. I feel so fortunate that we grew up in such a wonderful place. My mother, Dorothy was our Girl Scout leader and we all attended Trainer Methodist Church. Growing up in the 40's and 50's was the greatest. We all have so many fond memories.

Sisters, Harriet, Cindy and Carolyn also now living in Millsboro, De. Sharon is living in Bethel, Pa. A reunion sounds great.

I just found this website today. It's great. I attended Trainer School from 1952 to 1960. I graduated from Eddystone in 1964. I still live in Trainer in the same house my father John Mast built in 1946. He went to Trainer School and graduated sometime in the 30's. My son, Anthony Schreffler went to Trainer School from 1973 to 1979. My aunts, uncles, and cousins (Burnam, Anna, and Wayne Covey) went to Trainer School, too. Reading all the messages and names brings back some terrific memories. I still have my graduation program from Trainer and I'm sending it to Sherry Warder because I don't have an E-Mail address yet. A reunion sounds great. Trainer is still a great place to live. I'm a forth generation Trainer resident and still proud to be here.

Anyone remember a earthquake, or maybe an explosion at one of the refinerys in 77, 0r 78? It rattled the metal doors to the basement in one of the twins on Langley Street. Wasnt there a Congoluim(not sure about the spelling) either in Trainer or Marcus Hook< or maybe linwood? My mom worked there for a few years. My Dad worked at FMC in Marcus Hook. His best friend commited suicide by jumping into one of thwe smoke stacks there. It was in the Delaware county times if i remember correctly.

Who'd you smooch in the tunnel? Remember waiting for the train to pass overhead then yelling as long and loudly as you could. what a natural high! "The Rocks" were an absolute NO-NO so of course i knew them well! Got many an abrasion from excursions there. And what about that dreadful 9p.m. curfew siren! Were any of you given a little ride in the police car by Joe Sills and a free tour of the jail on 9th St. (what a dump!) for being caught out after curfew?

I had an email from someone who was too shy to post a message on here but wanted to bring some memories to the site. She also mentioned Fehl's Store and listed the names of the owners and children. I've added them to our list. Also does anyone remember the Fishers who lived on Anderson St? Janet, I believe was one. some new memories:

I was curious to know whether anyone remembered the floods that would happen under the railroad bridge everytime there was a big rainstorm? Who will be honest enough to confess they kissed someone in the railroad tunnel? How about who will confess they learned to swim at the "Rocks" and swallowed chemicals that Viscose used to flush in the creek. The rumor was that a kid had his eardrums eaten away from doing just that. I know for sure because Tommy Lavin told me that story. And---who wants to confess to crossing ninth street any other place except where "Joe the Cop" crossed you. ( I was one of them and they made me sorry for doing it). And the really big question--Who threw rocks at the train engineers then had the gall to cross the tracks in plain sight of the school? These are probably things that the "late 50's and after kids didn't do but I'm certain the late 40 & early 50 kids remember them. One other thing about Trainer--what other town had such annual festivals as REFINERY FIRES? They were so regular that I for one thought nothing of them except that they brought a little excitement to town.

I read through all of the notes from each of you. I lived 21 years of my life on Chestnut St. My mother (Sarah Shaw Brown) was also raised in Trainer. I recognize many of your names from family conversations. Some of you probably remember my aunts and uncles (Fred, Judy, Betty Lou, Bruce, and Kenny). I can remember the Warder family. I believe they were my aunt's friends. I attended Trainer School from 1966 to 1973. I had Mrs. Roshart in Kindergarten, Mrs. Jacobsen in 1st grade, Mrs. Gamboy in Second, Mrs.Petrosky in 3rd grade, Mrs. Books in 4th, Mr. Winston in 5th grade, and Mr. Davis in 6th. Mr. Clark also taught the other 6th grade class. I believe that Trainer School may have been closed in the late 70s or early 80s. I remember my cousins having to go to either Marcus Hook or Linwood School around that time. I believe that many in my family would be interested in attending a re-union. Please provide further updates to me.

(Class of '64) My siblings, Linny & Joe called me about the web site, so I checked it out...pretty nostalgic! Hello Talleys and Wares... and Lois Rumbel.

Linda Talley and I helped Mary Hersey (2nd grade) every lunch hour for years. I kept in touch with her til the early 80's til she was unable to write anymore. Someone stole her entire buffalo nickel collection...didn't we all bring her one when we found one?

Remember Joe "the cop" who crossed us to safety at that ominous corner every morning, noon and afternoon?

Names I haven't seen yet on the e-mails....Mr. Stopper (Mr. Science and every girl's crush) - Donna Krauss, the Webb sisters, clifton Stemple, RICHARD Nicholas, Bonnie Bartholomew (Bonnie & Charlene always had the best jump rope)- Debbie Stichter.

Does anyone have year books from Chichester '65 - 68? Likely a good source for jogging memories. Lost mine in a divorce, sadly.

Just some additional "stream of conscious" memories: Litle boxes of hard Christmas candy that the Sinclair CO. used to provide... Ice cream cones at Al's...Christmas caroling at the Phila. Airport- with "electric candles"...rainy-day dances...spring recess softball..."Ear-checks by Nurse MacAlister (also Mr. Maynard's secretary)- those ear checks were really lice checks!...Mr. Dougherty's English Class- Nov. 22, 1963...listening to the Beatles on those little transistor radios...hot lunches...milk money..."fresh air" - scent of the hour- from Sinclair...Mrs. Dare's geography classes that challanged us all...Mrs. DeNoia's fabulous spring productions...it was a great school with fabulous, dedicated teachers we were lucky to have as our educators. Wish my son (Brad...age 23) could have had the same priviledge.

A reunion would be great fun.

How does the Fall of 2004 sound to everyone? Please give me imput on all your feelings and suggestions. My sister, June and Brother Paul both said they would do alot of the legwork up in Trainer. Finding a place large enough to accommodate everyone, etc

If we are really going to do it, we want to get addresses and other info over as soon as we can. Everyone, thanks for getting names over. Richie Holmes sent me some more last night.

Hi Sonja, Hopefully, you received the list of Trainer People I sent to you. Let me know if you haven't received it. A few people were unable to open it with word. If you can't I can open and send it to you.

Lois, received more names tonight from Richie Holmes. Its amazing how everyone is coming up with different people. How are you doing on finding people? I found about 4 more tonight.

I lived at 1302(if I remember correctly) Langley st., until 5th grade, then moved to West Grove in Chester county. I also remember Ben's as I had several friends living in that area. Was the big street at the bottom of the hill 9th street? There was a Geno's (think it was called that, a fast food hamburger joint) on that street near the Chester border, and a REALLY good hoagie shop, near the bottom of price street and 9th street. This was from apx 1974 to 1981.

Linny - I heard from another alum that Miss Felton married 3 years ago at the wonderful age of 77! She married a man she met at the senior community where she lives in Media. He gave me the name of the community and I think without too much work we'd be able to contact her.

I can't tell you how happy I am that we found you and your family.

As this group has been communicating shadows of mememories hover on the edges of my brain. One that was just solved the other day was who was Thelma Gammon's best friend. Turns out the name I was looking for was Charlene Wilkerson.

Then I started to focus on a blonde haired girl that lived in the trailer park. She has the most awful crush on Troy Donahue. I could vaguely remember her name was Sarah and low and behold you e-mail that she was your best friend Sarah Stevenson.

This website has turned out to be so much fun!

Hello Linny, I was so excited finding your brother's information online. We had no idea how we were going to catch up with you and Kathy and Joe. It was wonderful talking with him and reliving so many fond memories, not only of Trainer but of Wesley Grove camp. I will be happy to email a list of names we have collected so far. You added another by giving us Sarah's name. Anyone else who comes to mind, please email me at the above email address. We have taken a serious start to locating them. Drop me a line also and let me know how your years have gone. Tell your Mom and Dad I was asking for them. Your Uncle (your mother's brother) lives in the Wesleyan Village about 15 mins from me.Rev Kephart lived there but passed on within this last year. Good to have a response from you, I know alot of people will be happy.

I went to Trainer School grades 1-8, graduating in 1964; then to Chichester Jr and Sr High, graduating in 1968. I lived at 1010 Sunset Av, Trainer and my father was the minister at the church next door. My sister, Kathy (Kathleen) was in the same grade as I was, although we were not twins - but we did dress alike in our younger years! I remember Ben's store very well- was two doors down from our house. My best friend in my class was Sarah Stevenson. My brother ,Joey (Joe), was seven years younger than I,and attended Trainer until our family moved to SC. I went to college in SC, married Don Ledbetter and have lived in Seneca (near Clemson Univ) since then. Would love to hear of a reunion. I haven't been back to the area since 1970.

The list of names continues to grow of old Trainerites. Any names, address, etc anyone has, please email me at the above address. I am working more on getting married names and addresses on the list we have complied to date. What I would like to do is try to have as complete a list as possible by the end of August, send out mailers letting folks know about the work being done to bring everyone together and a questionnaire as to whether they would "definitely come", "maybe" or "not interested". This way we would have an idea of where we would need to go as far as finding a place large enough to hold everyone. More on that later. Again, anyone wanting a list of the names obtained so far, please let me know. We can use all the help we can get locating everyone. Also, we will need help from anyone still in the general vicinity of Trainer to do legwork, etc. Thanks

I need to make a correction to an earlier posting. The kids that lived next to us were Hancock, not Wilson. Their first names were Diane and Wilsie (probably short for Wilson). Hence the confusion. I think they moved away in the early 60's when they would have been in the 2nd and 3rd grades.

Here's one for the Warder girls - My brother, Wayne, threw this one out there last night.(He's a secret reader of this site - won't sign on!)

Langley St. ran behind our house we lived in on Price St. There was a short street about in the middle of Langley that went toward Chestnut or Anderson (can't remember what order the streets were in).

On that "short" street lived a guy named Jimmy that folks nicknamed "curly eyelashes".

What was the name of the street and Jimmy's last name?

Anybody can chime in.

If you are going to do a complete Trainer list there were a bunch of families on Price St. That went to catholic schools. The Ciancia family - Rose, Vera, Edith and Michael (I have all their current addresses). The Grace's - Can't remember any of the kids names but the mom still lives in the same house. Bignear's - Chris, Dan and a sister. Frank Pantano. Wilson's, Diane and Wilsie- lived next to us. That's all I can think of this morning.

Sherry, That was a great way to get started..naming all the families you are familiar with. If all of us do that, we can all keep a list and work on it. My oldest brother was Hi, but he has passed on. I am hoping to come up in Aug so will call and have each of my brothers and sisters give me a list of everyone they remember and as many of them that they would know where they are now. the hardest part will be the women, of course. Sherry, Donna and I together will be able to come up with most of the ones in our class. I remember Lynwood Elliot, also Sharon Mast was a year behind me and so on... Lets all do our best. i know I will start al list from all the names I see on here. Let me know everyone you all can think of. My email is above, so if you have any emails for anyone, if you don't mond sending them to me and I will send the ones I have to whoever is going to help me with this project. (hopefully, everyone)

Hey,girls if we all took our own street starting naming names , some of us came from big families, different ages. Vel, Hal was your oldest brother, correct?, you may remember if you brain storm with June & John, they would know some of their school mates, we can try to go from there. Nancy, John was in classes with Vicki, plus, the Faulkner family, Edmenson boys, Birney Families (2 on 12th street) Louth family Okon family, Dempsey boys. It could be fun trying to putting the names out, whos's where now. Just going down Chestnut street I can name the names of people, if we all tried, maybe, at least, we can e-mail tham or phone. Lois, did you or Laurie remember the Webb sisters Lynn & Bonnie- Gentry family, the Longs Larry, Sonny, Nancy. Another big one Davis, Leona, Charlotte, Joey, Buddy, Walt. Girard girls, Barbara & Joanne. We could go on, talk later, Sher

As to the Olivers, the ones I knew were Nancy, Sally (whose wedding I was in-she married Larry) Carol and Diddle (that is what they called him back then anyway) and I vaguely remember Jackie. Floss and Frank Fisher were good friends with my aunt Anita and uncle Leon. ANd yes, I was the one with the "dancing curls"! I remember Floss yelling at Frank and Bobby as they were both drinkers-may they rest in peace. Vesuvios was across from the "tap room" where my uncle Leon used to go. Remembe when there was a miniature golf course right next to Vesuvios-fun to eat and golf! As to getting Tastykakes, they sell them out here now!!! John Aniston, father of Jennifer Aniston, is a soap opera star on Days of Our Lives. He plays Victor Kiriakos. (My cousin married a Kiriakos from Pennsylvania who worked at Scott Paper).

Seems John Aniston graduated from Eddystone around 1949.

Vel and Sherry - I would be very interested in an "all school" reunion. What I mean by that is we'd invite every class to attend.

I typically am in the Trainer area the week preceeding Labor Day weekend. Not that I'm volunteering to organize but that week could work for me next year.

Does anyone know how we could find old classmantes besides the classmates.com site. Not many have signed up on it.

John, the webmaster for this site, would like us to let him know if we organize a reunion because he will post it for us.

Sherry, thanks for the info on Elaine and Jackie. I'll stop by there in August when I'm home.

I also remember the drug store on Highland and 9th. Used to walk down there all the time when we were young. Wasn't there a deli in that shopping center too? I used to get wonderful eclairs from there...ummmm I can still taste the chocolate frosting.

Vel & Nancy, do you remember when they had the carnivals on 9th street, before Jerrys Diner was there, also , b4 they built the Highland Acres- split levels, I think they had a carnival or two there. It has changed, but our memeories are there. Thanks everyone! Lois, Ok, Olivers- Sally, Jackie Nancy, another boy, did they have a younger daughter too? Elayne & Jackie live in the twins, it may be his parents house, try that address. Oh yes, Heather lives in Maryland or Va, I'll find out when I talk to Aunt Dot Warder.. I lived behind the Fishers, when Floss would go off on Bobby or Frank the whole neighborhood heard her. Her daughter Janet & family live there now. Doesn't seem seem like that long ago, when we talk abt it. Lois, I can remember Honeysuckle ice cream parlor, 2 Jays Sandwich shop , I'm seeing a drug store on the corner of 9th & Highland - that area has been many things since Rez closed. Take care, enjoy the site- we could get a reunoin going, at least start, word of mouth will make it easier, check out Rez'a site, they have had a couple .

Will the person who emailed that they would be interested in a reunion, please send me your name? LOL. It would be hard to be in charge of it from down here but if everyone who is interested would say so, we could agree on a date next year and between all of us, get the message out via the Eddystone and Ridley Park classmates.com and this website, etc. The more responses, the more we can keep a list with emails, phone numbers, etc to make contacts.

Let me know who is "really" interested

Hello everyone,

Since I had so many brothers and sisters, I just about know all of you. From The Gammons to the Coles to the Warders and on and on. Trainer is a wonderful memory from the past. I remember all the balgames out front and up in the fields before the "new homes" were built. Remember the old airport there? I remember Helen Wilkerson and I getting into so much trouble hanging around there. The one place no one mentioned was Vesuvios Pizza. Was Sonja Talley and I the only ones who used to go for our singe pan pizza (way before Pizza Hut).

Does anyone know where Heather Tinney is today? She is about the only person I have lost contact with over the years.....

Love this site. Haven't been on too much lately with all the emails coming in to answer. LOL Lois, Larry, marty...

Laurie - I too remember many of the names that you mentioned. I was friends with Mary Jane Pubuski.

The Oliver's lived right behind us on Langley St. I can't remember all their names. Can you refresh my memory?

Someone mentioned that Elaine Kyle married an Oliver. Do you know where they live now? I'd love to get in contact with her or her sister Judy. Their mom used to watch me and my brothers after school.

Floss and Frank ring a bell too. Where did they live? Did she have blonde hair that was in "dancing curls"?

I loved going to Fell's and Ben's to get Tasteykakes! And Buddies for hoagies. And Gino's for those goofy 15 cent burgers.

Do you remember the restaurant across from Rez on 9th St.?

Laurie,, Spent many a day with Aunt Anita, remember thunder storms, she would take us in the little room by the kitchen and close the curtains? She hated storms.l. Karen & I had a nice time growing up together, she went to Rez, then Norte Dame, we lost contact, but I can remember the fun times. Leon took us out in his pick-up truck for rides, he also helped set up for weddings at the firehouse. Jimmy went in the service -I think in the early 60's. Did you know Effie lyn & Cletis? They were related to Anita? The Kincaid girls moved in next to them Mary Ann, Brenda, how about Shelly Walker, lived across from the Wilgis house- crush time Chickie Miller!! You may be too young to remember him. Pubusky girls, Mary Jane & Diane, Mike too. I could go on, seems like yesterday- where does time go? Nancy, we did have some good times growing up, sleep overs at your house, your mom was always the mother who cooked breakfast for the girls, Trainer school dances, walking the streets of Lennox Park. Standing on the corner of 9th & anderson, Harry Whitemans trips to Beaver Valley, Rich Stemple too. May fair, May Queen & court, didn't we think we were cool?

Lois, I bought the Eisle's house near 9th on Sunset after i married my old guidance counselor's (from Eddystone) baby brother. I don't recall the name Gammon, probably younger than me! But I do remember Rich Holmes and Eddie Pettit. Hi Guys. I have a picture from 3rd grade Vel and there you are! Remember the Warder-Ware-Wiser rollcall throughout grades 1-12! Talk about continuity in the community! For each of my siblings there was one of yours to keep the Warder-Ware thing going! To Larry Grantham, your idea to look into and someday solve Patty's murder is noble. On the night she was returning from walking her friend home (on the Ridge) I saw her cross 9th st. as I cut across Moreland's driveway. We even saw Mrs. Edge turning onto Main st. As my friend Dee and I stood and laughed on her porch there on 9th st, Patsy was shot. As i climbed the Chestnut St. hill to my home I heard the police sirens, and said a little prayer that none of my neighbors were seriously hurt. The next day, I too was interrogated by the FBI because this naive, socially challenged young girl had trusted one more person, and it turned out to be a murderer. Today I still remember the sorrow and fear that permeated our quiet borough. There were no "trauma counselors" or special ceremonies to mark the untimely passing of an innocent youth. You merely walked over the rain soaked, bloodstained cardboard and lived with it! There were as many theories as there were people in the town. Patty was cremated and interred at LawnCroft where she rests today beside her aunt Hazel, who was her guardian for as long as i can remember. Whenever I remember that nite, i still wonder if things might have been different if we hadn't taken the shortcut across the driveway and had spent just a brief moment talking to Patty instead. This thought raised a lot of questions about predestination, fate and timing in my youth. It might be interesting to see if any of the theories that were postulated more than 40 years ago have validity, but respect for the surviving family members is much more important. I remember her as a girl with a quick smile and a kind & loving nature. Unlike all of us, she will never age in my memory. She is part of my Poodle Skirt and Bobbysocks past and will remain forever young.

Interesting to see so much talking about Patsy Nicolas' murder. Actually, I was called into the FBI office and had the unpleasant job of identifying all of her pictures in her wallet. (still had blood on it). My parents were in Florida and were very upset that the FBI had subjected me to not only that but also to having to go to Patsy's aunt's house because I looked alot like Patsy and they wanted the reaction of her cousin, who was a suspect and then was cleared. i also had to do some spying for them for awhile at Eddystone. The way it all ended was tramatic, the director of the FBI took me and SOnja Talley to mcDonalds, treated us to lunch and basically said it was over. Sonja will also remember this time. The reason they contacted me was because Patsy apparently had mentioned me a few times in her diary as being nice to her. Just some history I thought all might enjoy.

I agree that this case has laid dormant for too long and that similar cases have been solved...because someone cares enough to look into it...regardless of the time that has gone by.. Maybe it would be helpful if we include the year we graduated from Trainer as part of our name. This will be especially helpful with the women's names since many are using married names.

I'm so excited to see so much activity on this site. If you know of anyone else that has e-mail and attended Trainer, ask them to join in.

I'm not a gold member of classmates. com but if anyone on this list is perhaps you could send this address to them to.

Looking forward to solving the murder of Patsy Nichols.

Laurie, You're correct. The murder happened right down from the funeral home. I've been communicating this past week with Lois Revenaugh and trying to piece things together about this horrible crime. I have a real interest in doing research on this case. Lois is going to help and in essence we'd like anyone from Trainer who recalls anything additional then what was reported in 1961 to be shared. I have written to a criminal profile group in Virginia requesting some guidance. I have a strong feeling that there is information (file) that has sat dormant for decades. When you look at cold cases shown on TV, you see how quickly some new investigator can pick-up on things others didn't in the past. In my opinion this case needs a "fresh look". I didn't know Patsy real well as I was nine and she was 15; however, going past that crime scene day in day out on the way to school in the weeks and months to follow undoubtedly left impressions upon many of us kids.

Vel - I'm pretty sure Nancy was in my class. I'm so sorry to hear she has passed away. I used to come to your home frequently to play with Nancy. I had a brother a year behind me (class of 65) that used to play with one of your brothers. We lived up on Price St. near Township Line Rd.

Our family moved to Flint, Michigan in Oct. 1964. I had barely started school at ChiChester.

Do you remember Patsy Nichols brother's name? He was in my class too.

Betty Jane - a reunion sounds wonderful. It will take a lot of coordination since so many of us live outside the area now.

Mr. Maynard was still the principal when I left Trainer in 1964. Mrs. Ware was teaching 6th grade geography and art. She taught me to write "I will not talk in class" a bizillion times on her blackboard!

We graduated with cap and gowns too. We also had a prom.

What wonderful memories you all are bringing back - keep posting messages!

Lois

I'm so happy to see so much activity on this website now. I think John created it last August.

I graduated from Trainer school in 1945, Mr Maynard was the principal-it was his first year. We wore capsand gowns-a first-the boys wore black, and the girls white. my first grade teacher was miss swan. I also remember Whippy, Krause, Pasco, Knopp, Wilkins, Greenwood, Dare (formerly Ross), Haldeman, (formerly Rawbaugh). For many years, before Mr. Maynard, miss Eisenhour was principal. My brother, Everett, went there 9 years before i did. He went to Eddystone high. I went to Ridley Park on the train. I would like to know about Robert Williams, Loraine Humphreys, Evelyn Scone, John Matowski, Barbara Plumb, and anyone else in my class. Also I would like to hear about May Benjamin (McMasters)-class of 1946 i think. This is a first for me and very interesting--would like everything i can get on those years and those people. Bob and I are retired-we have been married almost 52 years. We both love it here and are enjoying ourlife. I have my graduation picture, and can name almost all of them even yet. thankx for info. bj

I was one of the only "cap and gown class" of 1945. The girls wore white and the boys wore black. Mr Maynard was the principal, his first year there.

Lois,

I remember a Lynnie and Kathy Dongel, their father was pastor of AWeslyan Meth. Church. I would guess they are who you were speaking about. I'm sure everyone remembers the large Ware Family. We are all doing well. Most still live in the Pa, De area, except for Jim, who lives in Saratoga Springs, NY and myself who lives in Spring Hill, Florida after living 35 yrs in De. We've lost 2 members of our family, Nancy and Hi. We miss them terribly.

Many old grads of Trainer and Eddystone go to our nephew, Dr William Ware in Aston. People usually ask him if he is related to the large Ware family. And he is!!!

I would love to hear from some old Trainer teachers who remember me. Although, I had my name change to Vel in 1966, I was known as Velma in school.

Just seeing picture os Trainer and Eddystone H.S. bring back so many wonderful memories. Just a bit of a tear, also. It would be great to have a reunion of Trainer kids (old people, now) on the grounds of the old Trainer School. Email me if anyone else is interested in starting the ball rolling.

Crystal - did you graduate from Trainer in '64? I went to Trainer with a Crystal.

I loved the 4th of July celebration every year too! Riding the fire truck was so much fun!!!

Someone posted a message earlier about Mrs. DeNoia's annaul shows - they were so much fun. She made every child feel special. I couldn't carry a tune but she still put me in the choir. I remember going to the Philadelphia airport one year to sing Christmas carols.

Thanks to everybody here for sharing their memories. I enjoyed the recollection about the penny candies and juke box at Al's. I am the proprietor of a little restaurant, and can empathize with the shopkeeper's woes...bracing myself when the school bus unloads a myriad of screeching kids with fists full of small change.

Although our little school was located in a blue-collar area, the quality of education was very enriched. We were fortunate to have top-notch teachers. I still tell people about Mrs. DeNoia's annual musical shows....EVERYBODY participated (talented or not).

So many memories of those simpler and sweeter times. I appreciate this website and am thankful I can share my thoughts.

Hello-While I did not attend Trainer school, my two cousins, Tommy and Jimmy Wilgis did. My best memory of the school is going there every Fourth of July for the festivities-My ABSOLUTE favorite thing to do was to ride the fire engine, especially when it went under the railroad bridge and the siren echoed! Boy did we LOVE that!!! Does anyone remember that? By the way, we lived on Anderson Avenue. Peace out.

I attended Trainer in kindergarten (Mrs. Bertas). Then came back for fifth grade (Mr. Petrosky) while Marcus Hook was renovated. I am familiar with a lot of the names that are being mentioned though. It is really a trip to hear other peoples memories of the place. There is a special place in my heart for it and the town in general.

I graduated from Trainer School in 1954. I remember our class went to see "Oklahoma" at the Shubert in Philly. We had a class photo taken at school, I lost mine and if anyone knows where I can get a copy I sure would appreciate it. Eighth grade at Trainer was very great. Like everything else about the fiftys.

I'd love to share memories with folks who attended or graduated from Trainer School. I graduated from the 8th grade in 1964. Names I remember are Lynn McCall, the twins - Lynnie and Kathy, Richard Nichols (?), Sylvester and Irene, twins - Armand and Arthur, Clifton, Ruth Pierson, Trudy, and Bonnie Bartholomew.

Recently I was in Pennsylvania with my brother who would have graduated from Trainer in 1965. But we moved to Flint, Michigan in Oct. 1965.

When we were "home" we took lots of pictures of Trainer School. I'm glad because the security guard at the refinery told us they are getting ready to knock it down!

Anyone remember the Post Rd. Diner? Dancing at lunch time to the juke box? Hearing Stevie Wonder's Fingertips over and over again? Listening to all the Beatles records? Penny candy?

Hope to hear from someone out there from Trainer.

Lois
