School History: Many thanks to Fr. Joe Hess, frjoehess@netzero.net, for the following background notes about Archmere:

Although Archmere is in Claymont, Delaware, many Chesterites attended and graduated from Archmere -- I for one and there are many others including the present mayor of Chester and his uncle.

Archmere was founded in 1932 by the Norbertine Fathers. It is an independent, not for profit, college preparatory, day school. (It was also a boarding school years ago when I attended there.) It enrolls both men and women (boys and girls) ecumenical in character. The school's philosophy embodies the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church in a spirit of ecumenism.

HOMECOMING WEEKEND this year is set for October 18th & 19th, 2002. Class Reunion 2002 will celebrate classes ending with the number Two or Seven during the Homecoming Weekend.

Thomas Mallon is the editor of the school magazine, The Archmerean. tmallon@archmereacademy.org
