James Jardine

James Jardine

James Jardine
(A biographical sketch from a Chester Times or Delaware County Daily Times newspaper clipping, "Know Your Police" from the collection of John C. "Snakes" Boyle, contributed by his granddaughters, Jane Boyle & Patty Boyle.)

Patrolman James Jardine, a former iceman, joined the city's police department on December 10, 1941, and is assigned to the traffic department.

Jardine operated his own ice business for 17 years, which was founded by his father over 50 years ago.

Born and raised in Chester, he attended the public schools here. He's married to the former Olga Ewachiw and they have three children, James Joseph Jr., 24, who reenlisted in the Army for another 3 years after recently completing 6 years service and is now in Germany; Mrs. Marie Trakas, 23, living at home; and John Jerome, 18, a Piasecki Helicopter employee; and two grandchildren. They live at 345 Broomall st.

Auto racing is Jardine's principal hobby and he visits the famous Indianapolis 500 mile classic each year.

2/4/2006:

"[Below] are two photos of my Grandfather, Jimmy Jardine, who was a police officer. The one of him on the motorcycle was taken outside of his home at 349 Broomall Street. In the one of him on horseback, he is in the middle. I don't know which parade this was or the name of the street."
