(A biographical sketch from a Chester Times or Delaware County Daily Times newspaper clipping, "Know Your Police" from the collection of John C. "Snakes" Boyle, contributed by his granddaughters, Jane Boyle & Patty Boyle.)

Wilmer A. Ruby, Sr. is now the ranking sergeant on the Chester police force with nine years of service in that rank.

Ruby is 50 and lives at 422 Bickley pl. He was appointed to the force on April 15, 1937, after working for 18 years in Chester and surrounding areas as a butcher. At the same time he taught ballroom dancing and the tango at three schools he operated.

He still lists dancing and music as his hobbies and says he plays the ukelele extremely well.

He is married to the former Mary E. Moore of Chester. They have two children, Wilmer Jr., who served in the European theater with the U.S. Army during World War II, and Mrs. Dorothy Brittingham, who lives in Marcus Hook.

Ruby serves as a platoon sergeant.
