Company A & B

"Company A, formed Sept. 12, 1872, and Company B, of the Gartside Rifle Battalion. Company A, is commanded by Capt. George F. Springer; 1^st Lieut. Charles A. Story, promoted from 2^nd vice John H. Kerlin, who resigned in Sept., 1872; 2^nd Lieut. James Fryer; together with 5 sergeants, 8 corporals and 48 privates. Company B, was organized March 12, 1873, with David S. Gwynne as Captain, (resigned March 26, 1873.) John J. Morgan, 1^st Lieut. (resigned March 19, 1873.) Simon Lazar, 2^nd Lieut. William A. Todd, was elected Captain, April 16, 1872, at which date the command consisted of 5 sergeants, 8 corporals and 53 privates. William McClelland, was commissioned 2^nd Lieut., vice Morgan resigned. The battalion is commanded by Maj. Daniel Brown, formerly Captain of the first company."
