ROTARY CLUB OF CHESTER
No. 305 • Chartered June 1, 1917
P. O. BOX 333, CHESTER, PA 19016

Dear Friend of Chester:

We are proud to announce that the Rotary Club of Chester has embarked on a fundraising campaign to purchase and install a fine, four-faced town clock at the corner of Fourth Street and the Avenue of the States in front of City Hall. Painted dark green to match the Victorian style lampposts in the City’s new streetscape, the clock will stand 16˝ feet tall, bear the Rotary wheel on its face, and be visible to residents and visitors.

The purpose of this project is to commemorate Rotary International’s Centennial through a lasting gift that will help to beautify downtown Chester and enhance the City’s many revitalization initiatives. Seeing the clock will serve as a reminder that the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self,” can be a way of life for all citizens of Chester. Just as Rotary has withstood the tests of time and remained steadfast in its mission, so also has the City of Chester, and so will this magnificent timepiece.

Town clocks, an early form of advertisement in Victorian England, were designed to stand out against crowded buildings and signage, and were frequently placed in front of train stations, banks or other public locations. Today, the nostalgic street clock stands for a respected way of life – a symbol of our pride in workmanship, our stability, and our sense of community.

Please help us to raise funds for this landmark project by purchasing a miniature replica of the clock. Each miniature, handcrafted of pewter with four watch movements, is an exact replica of the clock to be installed in Chester. Individuals and companies may also opt to have their name imprinted on one of the four nameplates on the sides of the base of the clock. What a wonderful way to show your support for your community, leave an enduring memorial to a loved one, or advertise your business!

Prices are listed on the enclosed flyer. We expect to complete our fundraising by April 2005 and install the clock by May 2005. We then plan to unveil the clock in a formal presentation to the City and recognize donors at a gala centennial celebration dinner.

Thank you for your support of this very special gift to Celebrate Service to Chester!

With deep appreciation,

State Senator Dominic Pileggi
