John J. Welc
(A biographical sketch from a Chester Times or Delaware County Daily Times newspaper clipping, "Know Your Police" from the collection of John C. "Snakes" Boyle, contributed by his granddaughters, Jane Boyle & Patty Boyle.)

Although patrolman John J. Welc was born in Chester, he was raised on the Poland-Austria border. He returned to this country in 1925 and attended St. Hedwig's parochial school and Chester High School where he played on the football team.

After graduation he continued his football efforts, playing with virtually every independent team in the city.

During World War II he served in Italy with a U.S. Army Graves Registration Unit.

Before entering the service he was foreman with Stauffer Chemical Co. in Trainer. After the war he went to work for Ford Motor Co. in Chester as a power hoist operator.

He joined the police force in 1949. He's married to the former Dorothy E. Jaglinski of Elmhurst, Long Island, and they have three children, Patty Ann, 6, John Jr., 4, and Robert G., 7 months. They live at 100 Highland av.
