John A. Bullock Jr., 89
former Chester pharmacy owner


John A. Bullock Jr., 89, of Greensboro, N.C., and formerly of Chester and Wilmington, Del., a retired pharmacist, died May 29 at home.

Born in Prospect Park, Mr. Bullock lived in Chester and Wilmington, Del., before moving to Greensboro, N.C. one and a half years ago. He graduated from Chester High School, where he was president of the Class of 1925, and from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1928. He owned a pharmacy in the 700 block of Parker Street in Chester from 1932 to 1964.

Mr. Bullock was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Middletown, and was a former member of Madison Street United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church, both of Chester. He also was a member of Chester Lodge 236 F&AM, the Chester Hi Twelve Club, where he was a past president; the Chester Optimist Club, where he was a charter member and a past president; the Gideon Society, and the Delaware County Pharmaceutical Association.

Husband of the late Evelyn Keesey Bullock, who died in 1992, he is survived by a son, John A. Bullock 3d of Greensboro, N.C.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be a 2 p.m. Friday at the Minshall-Shropshire Funeral Home, Middletown. (State Route 352) and Knowlton roads, Middletown, with a Masonic Service preceding the funeral service. Burial will be in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Lower Chichester. Calling will be after 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
