John C. "Jack", "Big John" Hausmann

Born February 07, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA

Attended Jeffries Elementary School, Smedley Junior High School, and Chester High Schools

Left Chester High School to enlist in military service with the U.S. Army in 1947-48, and again in 1950-52 during the Korean War (his unit was the first Reserve outfit to be called back to Active Duty)

Returned to Night School and completed his High School Diploma on June 4, 1968

Volunteer Fire Fighter / Driver with Moyamensing Fire Department from 1946 until 1985

Served on Chester Police Department from July 13, 1957 to February 02, 1983:

· Assignments:
o Patrolman
o Motorcycle Patrolman
o Detective In-Charge of Abandoned Vehicles
o Shift Sergeant
o Sergeant of Traffic

· Partners included:
o Mike Docherty
o Joe Lombardo
o Frank Conley

· Police “Highlights”
o Saved a 15 year-old boy in 1962 when he pulled the boy from the Delaware River at the foot of Yarnall Street and applied artificial respiration
o Saved another life in 1974 by applying mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to a one year-old child.
o Worked both Eyre Park Floods, rescuing people by boat, and assisted in several fire department rescues

Now resides “In Relaxing Retirement” in southern Delaware with his wife, Betty
