Text of Obituary: Lewis Waverly Crew Jr. of Chester, an auto and truck mechanic, died Dec. 17 at Crozer-Chester Medical Center.

Born in Linwood, Mr. Crew resided in Delaware County most of his life.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the 405th Engineer Co. After two years of active duty, he spent four years in the Army Reserves.

Mr. Crew attended the Third Presbyterian Church of Chester.

He worked as a mechanic for Harry Alexander's Auto Sales, Devon Motors, the City of Chester and Gene Banta. Mr. Crew was also employed at various times by Congoleum Corp. in Marcus Hook and by two trash hauling firms, Harvey and Harvey, and Osborne.

He was also a volunteer for the former Moyamensing Fire Co. in Chester.

Surviving are his widow, the former Elaine Jimerson; four daughters, Andrea Andrews, Rosalind Crew and Karen Crew, all of Chester, and Patrice Cleveland of Petersburg, Va.; four sons, Lewis Waverly Crew III and Randall Crew, both of Chester, Wendell Crew of Wilmington, Del., and Larry Crew of Philadelphia; six sisters, Eva Harris of Dover, Del., Jean Pulliam, Edna Draine, Irene Jefferson and Ann Sherrod, all of Chester, and Betty Draine of Wilmington, Del.; two brothers, Donald Crew of Chester and David Crew of North Carolina; 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

His funeral will be at noon Tuesday at the W.M. James Leake Funeral Home, 10th and Pusey streets, Chester. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will assemble at 1010 Thomas St., Chester.
