Text of Obituary: 

George W. Dougherty, 71, of Bowers Beach, Del., a former Chester resident, died Oct. 23 at home.

Born in Upland, Mr. Dougherty resided in Chester until 1971, when he moved to Bowers Beach.

Mr. Dougherty was a Teamsters' truck driver for 35 years, retiring in 1983. He worked at Watkin's Motors in Chester and the E.I. DuPont Co. in Delaware.

He was a paid fireman with the Felton Fire Co. in Chester for many years and was a former member of the West End Boat Club in Chester.

Mr. Dougherty is survived by two sisters, Myrtle Nelson of Norwood and Annamarie Reed of St. Petersburg, Fla.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Aston. Calling hours are after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to Norwood United Methodist Church, 315 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA 19074.

Notes: Mr. Dougherty was born 8/18/1926.
