Text of Obituary: Henry J. Sancken, 84, of Chester, an active member of the Salvation Army, died Nov. 13 at home.

Born in Chester, Mr. Sancken was a lifetime resident of the city.

Mr. Sancken was a carpenter for B.P. Oil Co. for 42 years. For the last 15 years he worked for the Salvation Army.

He was a volunteer for the United Fund and a member of the former Moyamensing Fire Co. and the Salvation Army Church.

Mr. Sancken is survived by his wife of 58 years, Penola Sancken; four daughters, Florence A. Jones of Earlville, Md., Sarah E. Foreacre of Folsom, Penola Fisher of Chester and Mamieanne Skinner of Darby; three sons, John Sancken of Bel Aire, Md., Henry Sancken Jr. of Marcus Hook and Joseph Sancken of Norfolk, Va.; two sisters, Sarah Gillespie of Chester and Lillian McKinnon of Havertown; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was the father of the late Dorothy Tucker, who died in 1977, and Thomas Bailey Sancken, who died in 1979.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Salvation Army, 151 W. 15th St., Chester. Burial will be in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Lower Chichester. Calling hours are Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Salvation Army.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 151 W. 15th St., Chester, Pa. 19013.

Arrangements are by the Brower Funeral Home, Wallingford.
