Steamboat Hotel

c.1917

Notes: Erected by Francis Richardson in 1765 who had inherited considerable fortune from his aunt, Grace Lloyd, the widow of Chief Justice David Lloyd. The house, spacious and substantial in its day, was recognized as one of the most imposing private residences in the colonies and Francis Richardson entertained lavishly. His four daughters were much admired for their beauty. October 23, 1777, the English Frigate "Augusta" fired a solid shot thru the end of the house now marked by the round attic window. Licensed in 1826. - Photo from an album belonging to Beatrice A. Thompson, St. Paul's Episcopal Church
